Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize, develop, and design aerospace structures and composite components
  • Create CAD models for components and assemblies
  • Produce engineering drawings and define manufacturing and quality assurance requirements
  • Implement geometric tolerancing and perform mechanical calculations
  • Evaluate designs for cost, manufacturability, and quality
  • Provide technical support to clients
  • Identify and procure necessary mechanical components from suppliers
  • Document performance requirements and compliance specifications
  • Support manufacturing and testing of designs from concept to delivery
  • Assist in preparing proposals and presentations for business development
  • Analyze designs to ensure safe operational performance
  • Mentor junior engineers

SUMMARY

The Structures Design Engineer II role is to conceptualize, develop, design, test, and support deployment of aerospace and flight worthy structures. The primary focus of this position is product design for advance composite materials. Design of other mechanisms, mechanical products and systems will also be involved.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Conceptualize, develop, and design structures, tooling, and mechanisms in accordance with customer requirements, with a focus on advanced composite components
  • Create component and assembly level CAD models
  • Create engineering drawings, and define bill of materials, manufacturing system requirements, and quality assurance inspection requirements in accordance with appropriate standards and specifications
  • Implement geometric tolerancing and perform basic mechanical engineering calculations
  • Review designs for cost, manufacturing, and quality assurance issues
  • Provide technical support to customers
  • Designate off-the-shelf mechanical component or systems, identify vendors who can supply them, and request their purchase in a manner timely with delivery requirements
  • Document requirements for performance, compliance with customer requirements, plans, test procedures, test reports, and any other contractual specifications
  • Support manufacturing, quality assurance, testing, and deployment of designs from concept to delivery
  • Support proposal/presentation preparation for business development and market surveys.
  • Perform analysis of designs to ensure safe operation in meeting designated requirements
  • Mentor and act as a resource for more junior engineers


WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience and registration
  • Typically possesses 2-5 years aerospace and/or defense hardware design experience
  • Demonstrated proficiency in mechanical design, engineering, and drawing conventions
  • Hands on experience with composite part and tool manufacturing preferred
  • Knowledge of CAD/CAE tools relevant to mechanical systems design
  • Proficient with CATIA V5, experience with CATIA Composite Work Bench preferred
  • Proficient with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing methods
  • Detailed knowledge of design based military and commercial specifications
  • Self-motivated, able to multi-task, work independently on assignments with minimal oversight or direction, quality-oriented and safety conscious
  • Possesses strong mechanical aptitude as well as creativity in solving problems; able to track overall goals and "see the big picture" while focusing on details
  • Excellent communication and customer relationship skills
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must hold or be able to obtain a DoD SECRET clearance
