Full Job Description
The Civil, Structural and Architectural R&D Team
The CSA R&D team designs the template buildings, foundations, and modular structures that Fluidstack builds again and again for gigawatt-scale AI data centers. We engineer the design once, prove it, and hand delivery teams a package they can build without reinventing it.
Examples of key problems the team is working on
Design a repeatable building and foundation system that survives fabrication, transport, and site conditions across very different geographies.
Bring structural engineering in-house so design decisions close in days, not in weeks of waiting on an outside engineer of record.
Resolve the collisions between structure, equipment, and MEP: load paths, penetrations, attachment points, and tolerances in a tight envelope.
Turn factory and field lessons into engineered fixes in the next design revision.
Role Scope
Own the structural calculations. Run gravity, lateral, foundation, lifting, and transport analyses for template buildings, equipment supports, skids, and modular structures, and stand behind the numbers.
Produce the detailed designs. Take structural systems from concept through fabrication-ready drawings, connection details, and specifications without handing the work to a third party.
Make the design repeatable. Build the standard details, load tables, and design rules that let the same structure be built at many sites with minimal site-specific engineering.
Integrate across disciplines. Resolve where structure meets architecture, mechanical, electrical, and fire protection so the package builds clean.
Run structural support for the factory and the field. Answer RFIs, review shop drawings and submittals, and engineer fixes into the next revision.
Hand off to delivery. Package the design so site teams, fabricators, and local engineers of record can execute it with minimal rework.
What We're Looking For
The below is a starting point. We always make space for exceptional people, so if you don't fit this role exactly, tell us where you would.
You have 7+ years of structural engineering on industrial, mission-critical, or data center buildings, with steel, concrete, and foundation design in your own hands.
You perform your own calculations and produce your own detailed designs. You do not need an outside engineer to close a design.
You know the codes cold: IBC, ASCE 7, AISC 360, ACI 318, and how to apply them across seismic, wind, and snow regions.
You work in structural analysis and drafting tools daily (RISA, SAP2000, ETABS, RAM, Revit, or equivalent) and your drawings build without a stream of fabricator calls.
You have designed pre-engineered metal buildings, equipment foundations, or modular and transported structures, and you treat lifting and transport loads as first-class constraints.
You work across disciplines instead of throwing problems over walls, and you iterate fast without losing configuration control.
Bonus: PE license (SE a plus). Experience as engineer of record on hyperscale data center or industrial projects. DfMA and modular construction depth.
