Job Description

he Strategic Marketing Manager is a member of the Global Respiratory team is responsible for managing the BU's strategic business planning process and supporting organic innovation initiatives that drive future portfolio growth. This role will contribute to identifying, accessing, and prioritizing global market opportunities, technologies, and geographic expansion opportunities. This includes understanding market/technology needs, analyzing the competition, and assessing viability of new business opportunities (organic, inorganic, market development).

Experience conducting voice of customer and primary market research is required, along with the ability to develop and communicate a deep understanding of the customer needs. This individual will work collaboratively with team members across Olympus to execute initiatives and provide recommendations on future projects and investments. The role is a key contributor to the development of the future Respiratory portfolio and product pipeline.

This role requires the ability to develop and apply broad knowledge regarding customer needs, value chain, market structure, and medical solution offerings. The ideal candidate enjoys creative problem solving and has the ability to generate compelling investment stories / business plans supported by rigorous financial forecasting and analysis (NPV, DCF). They will apply a strong, data-driven approach to their work and will also be an effective communicator (oral, written, presentation). The right candidate will have diverse interests and feel comfortable demonstrating agility to think strategically across the portfolio and work with agility across projects / programs.

Job Duties

  • Develop deep knowledge of the markets, competitors, and solutions within the Respiratory business through market research, healthcare provider (HCP) engagement, attendance at industry conventions, and customer visits.
  • Partner with global product management teams, market intelligence, corporate and business unit strategy functions, medical affairs, research and development, and commercial organizations to support business case assessments.
  • Support management of the Respiratory business unit (BU)'s strategic business planning process and help develop the BU's strategic business plan; conduct analysis of the Respiratory portfolio and help prioritize organic, inorganic, clinical, and market development investments, ensuring alignment with the Respiratory business unit strategy.
  • Partner closely R&D and Medical Affairs to identify and prioritize opportunities to development new solutions that enable our long-term strategy and roadmap; evaluate commercial viability, understanding customers' requirements, evaluate commercial viability, and build business cases needed to activate new investments.
  • Lead market opportunity assessments from inception to completion and present key findings, recommendations, and strategic insights to leadership.


Job Qualifications

Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in science, engineering, finance, marketing, healthcare, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in the healthcare industry, including medical devices, diagnostics, corporate strategy, upstream marketing, downstream marketing, project management, analytics, or research and development (R&D).
  • Ability to lead project teams and drive cross-functional collaboration.
  • Strong clinical competency and analytical skills.
  • Experience designing and executing Voice of Customer (VOC) research initiatives.
  • Self-motivated with a proven track record of setting goals, executing initiatives, and successfully leading cross-functional teams.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated success in identifying and developing new business opportunities.
  • Excellent writing, composition, and English grammar skills.
  • Strong verbal communication and presentation abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse global teams within a large, multinational matrix organization.
  • Proven record of delivering on commitments, managing realistic schedules, and meeting or exceeding deadlines.
  • Experience developing pricing models, market forecasts, strategies, and programs, and integrating insights into business plans that achieve targeted results.
  • Knowledge of company products, competitive landscapes, and applicable device regulations governing commercial activities.
  • Strong problem-solving and project management skills within a product management environment.
  • Service-oriented, flexible, and proactive in adapting to changing business needs.
  • Highly collaborative team player who contributes to a positive, innovative work environment.
  • Ability to independently manage complex and sensitive assignments that require initiative, sound judgment, and strategic recommendations.

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally approximately 15-25% of the time to visit customers, company locations, trade shows, and industry events.
  • Travel requirement of at least 25%, including international travel.
  • Ability to work overtime, including occasional evening and weekend hours from home.
  • Flexibility to support additional projects and responsibilities as assigned.


Preferred:
  • MBA with a focus on business analytics strongly preferred.
  • Respiratory product experience preferred.
  • Experience identifying unmet needs, creating concepts, and implementing solutions using the Biodesign innovation process for healthcare technology strongly preferred.

The anticipated base pay range for this full-time position in this location is $122,362.00 - $171,307.00 / year, plus potential for annual bonus (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).

Olympus considers a variety of factors when determining actual compensation for this position, including level of experience, working location, and relevant education and certifications.
