Full Job Description
RSM is seeking an experienced, energetic and self-motivated State and Local Tax (SALT) specialist to join our dynamic, collaborative and expanding SALT team. RSM's collaborative and entrepreneurial culture provides a career-focused individual with the opportunity to be a first-choice advisor to middle market leaders.

The ideal candidate will help execute our strategy to deliver the RSM client experience, focus on the middle market, empower passionate teams and build communities of RSM promoters through the following responsibilities:

  • Participate in and contribute to one of RSM's core industry teams, including Manufacturing, Wholesale & Distribution, Financial Services, Construction & Real Estate and, Consumer & Industrial Products.
  • Lead and manage complex state and local tax engagements, with a focus on delivering high-value tax advice and identifying opportunities to expand client services.
  • Advise clients on nexus, apportionment, business and nonbusiness income, unitary taxation, multistate tax planning, state tax controversy matters, audit defense, and transaction due diligence.
  • Have strong writing skills to assist with drafting of internal memorandums, summaries of technical matters for internal publication, external client communications and correspondence with taxing authorities.
  • Serve as a Performance Advisor, mentor, or coach by providing timely, constructive feedback and supporting the professional development of team members.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude, strong leadership, teamwork, and the highest professional standards in serving both internal and external clients.
  • Continue to expand knowledge base in area of expertise, comply with continuing education requirements.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through proactive communication, responsiveness, and a commitment to exceptional client service.
  • Collaborate across service lines to deliver integrated solutions and an exceptional client experience.
  • Remain current on emerging tax developments, legislative changes, and industry trends while actively expanding technical expertise and fulfilling continuing professional education requirements.


Basic Qualifications:
  • Requires a minimum of Bachelor's degree in Accounting or closely related field from an accredited college or university
  • Requires one of the following: CPA, JD, or LLM in Taxation, or Enrolled Agent
  • Requires a minimum of six (6) years of experience providing state and local income/franchise tax compliance and or consulting services in a Public Accounting, Consulting, or Law firm
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, detail oriented and excellent interpersonal skills

At RSM, an employee's pay at any point in their career is intended to reflect their experiences, performance, and skills for their current role. The salary range (or starting rate for interns and associates) for this role represents numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, education, skills, work experience, certifications, location, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.

Compensation Range: $100,000 - $189,200

Individuals selected for this role will be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on firm and individual performance.
