Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Standardized Patient (SP) Program Director provides strategic and operational leadership for the UCLA Simulation Center's SP Program. Standardized Patients are an essential component of medical education--trained actors represent patients in interactions with trainees, portraying individuals with a wide range of medical conditions, backgrounds and health determinants.
The Director oversees SP program operations (including budget, scheduling, and curriculum), SP educator staff (trainers) and standardized patients themselves. The Director works collaboratively with faculty, education leadership and other stakeholders to support the development, delivery, management and evaluation of high-quality SP-based educational programs across the medical school and health system. Trainees include MD students, residents/fellows, faculty, and physicians.

Annual Salary Range: $88,900.00 - $190,300.00

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum five (5) years of related experience or training
  • Demonstrated program administration experience preferably in medical education, which includes planning, analysis, organization, leadership, conflict resolution, decision-making and independent thinking
  • Demonstrated ability to assess and synthesize information, anticipate problems, develop solutions, make timely decisions and implement changes
  • Leadership skills to supervise, train, motivate, assign and direct work.
  • Interpersonal skills (including tact, diplomacy and flexibility) to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with staff members, faculty, and students.
  • Verbal and written communication skills to clearly and effectively convey and present information to diverse groups of individuals, including students, staff, faculty and SPs
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to establish goals, set priorities, coordinate logistics and planning, multiple work assignments and deadlines, and produce timely and quality results despite frequent interruptions
  • Knowledge of and experience in acting, directing and film production
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and case research procedures such as reading charts and scientific materials
  • Technical proficiency in Microsoft suite, general computer software and database skills with ability to quickly learn new programs
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality/privacy and handle issues discretely and with appropriate sensitivity.
  • Ability to work on occasional evenings and weekends


Preferred:

  • Master's degree in related area (theater arts, health, science, engineering, education).
  • Experience using SimCapture
