Staff Systems Engineer, HV Battery Software

Role Overview

We are currently seeking a Staff Systems Engineer, High Voltage Battery Software to drive development and integration of Lucid's proprietary Battery Management System (BMS) software. In this role, you will bridge the gap between early-stage prototypes and global production releases, ensuring our energy storage and powertrain systems operate with maximum safety, efficiency, and performance.

This position sits at the intersection of embedded software, power electronics hardware and vehicle network architecture. You will collaborate with engineers across systems engineering, hardware, controls, and verification and validation to perform complex architecture studies and drive architecture decisions, develop robust system requirements and drive hardware and software improvements for current and future Lucid vehicles.

Role responsibilities:

• Perform functional decomposition to translate complex vehicle-level requirements into clear, verifiable, and traceable BMS and energy storage requirements

• Perform system analysis and simulations to architect robust, scalable BMS frameworks and propose concept of operations to cross-functional teams

• Collaborate with safety and reliability teams to perform FMEA, FTA and safety analysis to enable development of fault-tolerant embedded systems capable of real-time, safety-critical execution.

• Define verification procedure and clear PASS/FAIL criteria for requirement verification and work closely with V&V teams to successfully complete integration testing and guarantee release quality.

• Leverage large-scale telemetry and fleet-health analytics to proactively monitor battery performance, diagnose anomalies, and triage complex field issues.

• Develop, validate, and rapidly deploy OTA software mitigations to resolve field anomalies and continuously improve battery safety and longevity.

• Own configuration management, versioning, and release processes to ensure reproducible, auditable, and compliant deliveries.

What you bring:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a technical related field is required. Master's degree or higher education is preferred.

• 7+ years of experience in the field of BMS development or Energy Storage Systems developing embedded hardware and software for safety-critical, real-time systems

• Deep understanding of Battery Management Systems, including cell modeling, state estimation (SoC/SoH/SOP), cell balancing, and fault diagnostics

• Demonstrated ability to translate high-level system requirements into low-level embedded hardware and software requirements

• Proficiency with requirement management process and experience with using at least one requirement management tool such as JAMA, Polarion, or 3DX

• Proven experience with cross-functional software integration, configuration management, and automated Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing frameworks

• Proficiency analyzing large-scale vehicle telemetry data (Python, SQL, or MATLAB/Simulink) to drive engineering decisions

Ways to stand out:

• Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering methodology and tools such as Cameo, System Composer, etc.

• Experience shipping OTA update pipelines for embedded/automotive systems at fleet scale

• Hands-on experience with MATLAB/Simulink model-based design and auto-code generation for real-time targets

• Familiarity with functional safety standards (ISO 26262/ASIL) and automotive cybersecurity (ISO 21434)

• Experience with vehicle communication protocols and measurement data (CAN, CAN-FD, UDS, and isoSPI)

• Familiarity with AUTOSAR architecture and its application in modern automotive software platforms

• Experience with data pipelines and fleet-analytics tooling for anomaly detection and root-cause analysis

• Proficiency in git tools and CI/CD for embedded software and automated regression testing

Salary Range: The compensation range for this position is specific to the locations listed below and is the range Lucid reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for the position taking into account the wide variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including job-related knowledge; skillset; experience, education and training; certifications; and other relevant business and organizational factors.

Base Pay Range (Annual)

$164,600-$241,450 USD

Compensation & Benefits: Lucid offers a comprehensive and competitive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance; life and disability coverage; paid time off; paid holidays, paid sick leave; and a 401(k) retirement plan. Hourly/non-exempt employees accrue up to 120 hours paid time off, and salaried/exempt employee accrue up to 160 hours paid time off. Eligible employees may also participate in Lucid's equity program and/or a discretionary annual cash incentive program. Incentive and equity awards, if applicable, are determined based on individual performance, role scope, market considerations, and overall company results, in accordance with the terms of the applicable plans.
