About the RoleWe're looking for a
Staff Product Designer to own design direction for a healthcare domain spanning multiple interacting workflows and product surfaces. You'll turn ambiguous clinical and operational problems into a clear design agenda, shape product direction with business partners, and lead design from discovery through launch. Your work will connect individual features into holistic, coherent experiences for the people who deliver care and run medical practices.
This is a hands-on creative leadership role. You'll set a clear creative direction for your domain, turning user insights and product strategy into compelling concepts, coherent interaction models, and a vision that helps teams see what's possible. Through clear communication and mentorship, you'll help experienced designers and cross-functional partners strengthen their design judgment.
Our design team operates like a studio: we critique work, share approaches, and develop our craft together. We use realistic prototypes and AI-assisted workflows to explore ideas and test assumptions, and clear writing to sharpen our thinking, explain design decisions, and articulate their value to users and the business. We partner closely with product, engineering, and operations to turn that understanding into better healthcare workflows.
Location and travel: This is a full-time role based at our headquarters in Mountain View, CA, with a minimum of
3 days per week in the office and occasional travel to client sites for field research and direct user engagement.
What You'll Do- Own the design agenda for a domain. Bring structure to ambiguous problems, connect workflows across product surfaces, and identify the most important opportunities to improve user and business outcomes. Define success with your cross-functional partners and use evidence to assess progress.
- Shape product direction and roadmaps. Synthesize user research, customer needs, business priorities, and technical constraints into a clear point of view. Partner with Product and Engineering to connect a longer-term experience vision to practical, sequenced investments.
- Set and carry creative direction. Develop a strong point of view on how the product should work, look, and feel. Bring that direction to life through concepts, prototypes, and narratives, then guide the work through critique and implementation, raising the quality bar across teams while giving collaborators room to contribute.
- Build deep understanding of users and their work. Lead research, including on-site observation and workflow testing, to understand clinical and practice operations. Map interactions across people, processes, and systems; uncover unmet needs and the root causes behind fragmented experiences.
- Stay hands-on from concept through launch. Create clear interaction models, refined interfaces, and realistic prototypes. Validate ideas with users, address accessibility and edge cases, and work closely with engineers through implementation. Use feedback after launch to improve the experience.
- Create durable patterns and shared approaches. Identify recurring problems across workflows and contribute reusable patterns, components, and abstractions to the design system. Help teams adopt approaches that improve coherence without ignoring meaningful differences in user needs.
- Align people around clear decisions. Use design briefs, workflow maps, prototypes, and compelling narratives to explain opportunities and tradeoffs. Resolve competing priorities, coordinate dependencies across teams, and keep partners aligned through execution.
What You Have- A track record of domain-level ownership. You've led complex, end-to-end product design with impact across multiple workflows and teams. You can show how you helped define the problem, shaped direction, and stayed accountable through delivery and iteration.
- Creative vision grounded in product judgment. You can move beyond incremental improvements to imagine better ways of working. Your portfolio shows how you established a direction, inspired others to build on it, and carried the strongest ideas into a shipped experience, including the tradeoffs you made and the outcomes of your work.
- Exceptional interaction and visual craft. You simplify complex workflows without losing essential detail. Your work demonstrates strong information architecture, clear interaction models, thoughtful visual hierarchy, and attention to accessibility, edge cases, and error prevention.
- Strong research, framing, and systems thinking. You turn incomplete information and conflicting requests into actionable insights and design opportunities. You build deep domain expertise and reason about how users, business operations, and technical systems interact.
- Influence beyond your own execution. You've aligned cross-functional partners, mentored experienced designers, and improved the quality or effectiveness of work across teams. You can build trust, challenge assumptions constructively, and help others make sound decisions.
- Clear writing and compelling storytelling. You can frame a problem in a design brief, articulate a domain-level vision, and explain decisions to design, technical, business, and customer audiences.
- Applied experience with AI-assisted design and prototyping. You use tools such as Figma and AI-assisted development environments to explore concepts and build realistic prototypes, including code-based prototypes when appropriate. You can show how these workflows improved learning, quality, or speed, while protecting sensitive information and critically reviewing outputs. This expectation is about making ideas testable, not owning production engineering.
- Ownership and sound judgment under ambiguity. You proactively identify work that matters, prioritize competing workstreams, communicate commitments, and balance speed with quality. You bring genuine curiosity about healthcare and the judgment to work in a high-trust environment.
What we offer- Meaningful ownership of complex healthcare problems, with influence over product direction and the opportunity to see your work through to real-world use.
- A collaborative, studio-like design team that values critique, shared learning, and strong craft.
- Opportunities to expand your impact through hands-on design, mentorship, and improvements that help multiple teams succeed.
- Competitive compensation and benefits, with support for professional development and learning.
