Full Job Description
We are seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer to serve as a senior technical leader on our Fuel Cell Power Systems (FCPS) development program for powered industrial trucks. This is a hands-on, high-ownership role. You will drive mechanical design and integration across multiple FCPS configurations, mentor junior engineers, and act as the mechanical discipline's technical authority through the full product development lifecycle from concept through design freeze, validation, and production readiness.
The company's corporate headquarters is in Greenville, SC just minutes from the Greenville Spartanburg International Airport.
Responsibilities / Duties:
This role at Infintium is expected to:
- Lead mechanical design of fuel cell power systems, including structural frames, enclosures, ballast and counterweight integration, thermal management, and hydrogen storage and delivery hardware.
- Own mechanical work products through the phase-gate process, including design reviews, drawing releases, and engineering change control.
- Lead and influence development and maintenance of 3D CAD models, 2D drawings with GD&T, BOMs, and engineering documentation to release-quality standards.
- Perform and review engineering analysis: structural (FEA), thermal, vibration/shock, tolerance stack-ups, and pressure system calculations (e.g., PRV sizing per API 520).
- Design hydrogen-wetted components and plumbing in compliance with applicable codes and standards (NFPA 2, UL 2267, IEC 62282, CGA guidance); enforce hydrogen-compatible material selection and fitting practices.
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective action for mechanical failures in test and field units; feed lessons learned back into design standards.
- Define and support DV test plans; participate in design verification and production readiness reviews.
- Interface with suppliers to improve product design.
- Mentor and technically guide mechanical engineers and designers; review work products and raise the team's design standards.
Required Qualifications / Experience:
The applicant for this position must meet these requisites:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering (M.S. Preferred)
- 10+ years of mechanical design engineering experience
- Working knowledge of pressure systems design, fittings and tubing practices, and material compatibility for gaseous service.
- Strong fundamentals in structural and thermal analysis; able to perform hand calcs and direct FEA work.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks, Creo, or NX) and drawing standards including GD&T (ASME Y14.5).
- Experience with formal engineering change control (ECO/CCB processes) and configuration management.
- Experience leading design reviews and mentoring engineers.
- Strong written and verbal communication, teamwork, and technical analysis.
- Ability to critically analyze data, new processes, and technical documents
- Innovation and growth mindset
- Desire to work in a hands-on environment
Preferred Qualifications
In addition, the ideal applicant would also meet the following:
- Experience with hydrogen systems, fuel cells or compressed gas.
- Familiarity with NFPA 2, UL 2267, IEC 60079.
- Experience with powered industrial trucks (forklifts) or comparable motive applications.
- Experience with DFMEA, root cause analysis methods (5 Whys, fishbone, 8D), and reliability engineering.
