Staff Field Application Engineer

Job Summary:

As a Staff Field Application Engineer (FAE), you will spearhead the delivery of our Enterprise Robotics Integration Program model for Boston Dynamics' most high-value, strategic accounts. In this pivotal role, you merge deep technical expertise with a business-centric Go-To-Market strategy to design, integrate, and scale robotic solutions across global multi-site enterprises. You are the vital link between high-level governance and on-the-ground execution, ensuring that our robots deliver measurable operational impact.

You will work in synergy with Sales, Customer Success, Global Support & Services, and Product R&D teams, ensuring that the cohesive technical program drives measurable operational impact and accelerated, long-term enterprise adoption. Your expertise is critical in championing long-term product evolution by proactively gathering, systematizing, and conveying field-proven requirements, insights, and customer feedback to internal development teams. You will lead technical projects that enhance program efficiency, standardize playbooks, and drive continuous improvement, ensuring adherence to industry standards, developing program-level SOWs and customer enablement through training and operational support.

Key Responsibilities:

The Strategic FAE serves as the technical lead and orchestrator for the Enterprise Robotics Integration Program model across a customer's fleet. The key responsibilities are:
  • Program Architecture & Global Strategy: Lead the creation of complex solution architecture for large-scale, multi-site integrations. Design scalable robotics programs that include infrastructure planning, network integration, and global expansion strategies.
  • Cross-Functional Orchestration: Act as the primary technical point of contact for strategic accounts, working in synergy with Sales, Customer Success, Global Support & Services, and Product R&D teams to align technical solutions with measurable business growth.
  • Governance & Standardization: Establish and maintain high-quality program standards, including Statements of Work (SOWs) and repeatable integration playbooks, ensuring all activities adhere to industry and regulatory requirements.
  • Enterprise System Integration: Act as the technical advisor for robotic data integration and operational workflows into customer enterprise systems (e.g., CMMS, asset management, and data analysis pipelines).
  • Customer Enablement & Value Measurement: Deliver advanced training to build internal program ownership within customer teams and implement frameworks to measure the operational value and utilization of the robot fleet.
  • Product & Engineering Collaboration: Systematize customer feedback and field data to push critical insights into the internal development cycle, serving as a direct channel to influence the Boston Dynamics product roadmap.
  • Internal Leadership & Mentorship: Guide other FAEs and integration teams, identifying patterns in field data to drive long-term optimizations and continuous improvement of the global integration roadmap.

Core Competencies:
  • Strategic Program Leadership: Mastery of complex, large-scale robotics integration and enterprise program management. Leads large-scale, multi-site projects, prioritizing technical streams for maximum, scalable operational impact across the full solution lifecycle. Operates effectively and adapts to shifting priorities in global environments.
  • Synergistic Enterprise Alignment: Builds and maintains strong, consultative partnerships across business units and stakeholders. Acts as the primary technical contact for strategic accounts, using exceptional communication to align technical execution with the customer's long-term business growth strategy.
  • System Integration Mastery: Deep expertise in multi-site, high-complexity product integrations, optimizing performance across hardware, software, and networking systems. Possesses strong analytical skills for diagnosing and resolving highly complex technical issues to ensure maximum operational impact.
  • Standardization & Mentorship: Develops and standardizes new integration workflows, repeatable playbooks, and customer enablement strategies to advance enterprise autonomy and fleet performance. Drives continuous excellence through technical mentorship and competence in producing high-quality technical documentation.
  • Product & Go-To-Market (GTM) Influence: Systemically synthesizes patterns from field data and customer feedback, directly influencing the strategic direction of the global product roadmap. Familiarity with technical GTM, early product testing, and scaling customer success.

You Must Have:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or a related technical field, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Experience: 5+ years of professional experience with a Bachelor's degree, or 3+ years with a Master's degree, in fast-paced technology integration, robotics, or complex systems engineering environment.
  • Strategic Integration Expertise: Proven track record of overseeing high-complexity technical deployments and managing the intersection of hardware, software, and operational workflows.
  • Communication & Influence: Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical concepts effectively to engineering teams, operators, and business stakeholders, ensuring alignment on project goals and impact.
We Value:
  • Operational Adaptability: Proven comfort in refining and optimizing processes to ensure global scalability and consistent performance across diverse sites.
  • Technical Versatility: Ability to leverage CAD for site planning, navigate enterprise networking (VLANs/VPNs) during setup, and utilize Python or C++ APIs to customize robotic solutions and collaborate with technical stakeholders.
  • Resilience & Autonomy: Comfort navigating the ambiguity of early-stage product deployments and the ability to build structure where none exists.
  • Go-To-Market Instinct: The ability to recognize how a successful technical integration can unlock broader strategic impact and account expansion.
  • Industrial Domain Expertise: Familiarity with specialized workflows in sectors like large-scale manufacturing and logistics.

Location & Workplace:
  • Corporate Headquarters: This is an in-person role based out of our headquarters in Waltham, MA, offering direct access to our engineering labs and cross-functional teams.
