Full Job Description
The role

We're looking for a Staff Backend Engineer to join our Ingredient to Product tribe at HelloFresh. This is a high-impact individual contributor role sitting at the intersection of Food Systems and Backend Engineering - you'll be the technical bridge that identifies business and technical gaps and works with business leads to turn requirements into scalable production systems and solutions.

You'll work across squads within the Food Systems alliance, partnering closely with Backend Engineers to ensure E2E menu operational efficiencies are met, raise the technical bar, and accelerate the tribe's ability to deliver value to our customers.
What you'll do
  • Design, build, and own robust, scalable infrastructure for menu operations and be a key driver to ensure a successful xPS migration in the US market.
  • Act as the technical bridge between Food Systems business leads and Backend Engineering teams within the Ingredient to Product tribe - translating needs into scalable engineering solutions
  • Define and drive best practices for model serving, APIs, and system design across squads
  • Lead cross-squad technical initiatives, from architecture decisions to hands-on implementation
  • Partner with internal engineer teams to ensure production services - are performant, observable, and maintainable
  • Contribute to tribe-wide engineering standards and shape the technical roadmap
  • Mentor and support engineers across squads without direct line management responsibility
What you'll bring
  • 8+ years of backend engineering experience, with a strong foundation in Python, Kotlin, GoLang
  • Proven track record in taking architectural decisions about the development and maintenance of large-scale distributed systems and integrations with applications and user interfaces
  • Advanced experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud-native architectures, including production operations at scale
  • Deep understanding of distributed systems, APIs, and microservices architecture
  • Strong track record of working across team boundaries to deliver complex, cross-functional projects
  • Meaningful experience using AI coding agents (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot) as part of your regular workflow
  • A collaborative, low-ego approach with strong technical judgment
