Full Job Description
Mission Summary:Our Design Release Engineering team, within the Vehicle Platform Engineering group, is seeking a highly motivated Staff Engineer to own the engineering integration, program management tracking, and cross-functional alignment between Motional's Autonomous Driving System (ADS) and our vehicle manufacturer (OEM) partner's base vehicle platform.

This role serves as the central orchestrator for the end-to-end hardware integration required to marry our autonomous driving technology with the base vehicle. You will ensure robust technical execution, manage OEM and internal technical coordination and milestones, and drive program delivery that meets all performance, cost, and timing objectives.

What You'll Be Doing:
  • Own the complete vehicle hardware integration of the autonomous driving system with the base vehicle platform, managing shared requirements and Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and ensuring seamless mechanical, electrical, and network compatibility.
  • Drive technical discussions and cross-functional alignment between the vehicle manufacturer's engineering teams and internal Motional technical teams to coordinate vehicle platform requirements, design, and component integration.
  • Lead technical and programmatic execution for the integration lifecycle, establishing, monitoring, and managing the master integration schedule against vehicle-level design milestones, build events, and gate assessments.
  • Oversee the generation, alignment, release, and change management of engineering documentation, specifications, and data exchanges between Motional and the OEM, tracking impacts to cost, timing, and scope.
  • Partner on the development and execution of platform testing and certification plans, tracking vehicle platform testing schedules and ensuring successful validation against system-level performance targets on time.
  • Lead technical program reviews, gate assessments, and master timing milestone tracking, proactively developing risk mitigation plans to ensure platform maturity aligns with vehicle build timelines.
  • Provide regular, data-driven status updates to technical and program leadership regarding design and integration maturity, test progress, open cross-functional issues, and key project milestone metrics.

What We're Looking For:
  • 8+ years of experience in automotive hardware design, release engineering, or vehicle integration, with direct experience managing complex OEM/tier-supplier vehicle programs or platform integrations.
  • Prior experience working within an automotive OEM, or managing large-scale platform integrations as a strategic Tier 1 partner.
  • Demonstrated experience driving multi-disciplinary engineering activities, cross-functional milestone tracking, and risk mitigation strategies throughout the full automotive product lifecycle.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Computer, or Systems Engineering (or a related field).
  • Deep technical understanding of core vehicle architectures, network topologies (e.g., CAN-FD, automotive ethernet), and electrical/mechanical packaging constraints.
  • Fundamental knowledge of automotive engineering documentation, validation processes, and quality standards (including DVP&R, DFMEA, and PFMEA).
  • Familiarity with CAD systems (e.g., NX, CATIA), Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems (including requirement management tools such as Polarion), and engineering release workflows.
  • Strong understanding of vehicle integration, packaging, assembly processes, and functional safety standards (ISO 26262).
  • Proven ability to lead highly complex initiatives, manage both internal and external organizational stakeholders, and execute to aggressive program timelines with minimal oversight.

Bonus Points:
  • Professional proficiency or fluency in Korean to facilitate direct technical and program communication with international vehicle manufacturing partners.

This role is based in our Pittsburgh office and requires in-office days each week.
