Position Summary

Sony is seeking an Attorney, AI Governance, to join the AI Governance Office, which is the headquarters department responsible for developing and operationalizing AI governance frameworks, policies, and assessment processes across Sony Group. Working closely with Legal, Privacy, Information Security, and business stakeholders, the attorney will help identify and mitigate legal and ethical risks, track public policy developments, prepare internal briefings, and contribute to global baselines and governance frameworks that address responsible innovation and adoption of AI-enabled products and services.

The successful candidate will have a strong foundation in technology-related legal matters, particularly in areas such as copyright, consumer protection, product liability, or regulatory compliance. The attorney will provide practical legal guidance, conduct regulatory analysis, develop governance resources, support risk assessments, and help operationalize Sony's global AI governance framework.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of Sony's AI governance framework and related risk management processes.


  • Conduct legal and regulatory analysis relating to AI, such as intellectual property, consumer protection, product liability, privacy, and AI ethics.


  • Review AI use cases and business initiatives to identify governance and ethical risks.


  • Prepare first drafts of memos, policies, guidance documents, governance artifacts, training materials, presentations, and stakeholder communications.


  • Monitor and analyze global legal and regulatory developments affecting AI.


  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to translate legal and internal policy requirements into practical business guidance.


  • Support governance forums, workshops, executive briefings, AI literacy, and other strategic initiatives.


  • Maintain governance documentation, templates, playbooks, and knowledge management resources.


Required Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.


  • Active membership in at least one U.S. state bar.


  • Minimum of 3 years of legal experience at a law firm, in-house legal department, government agency, or a combination thereof.


  • Experience advising on technology-related legal matters.


  • Strong legal research, analytical, drafting, and communication skills.


  • Strong judgment, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.


  • Ability to balance legal risk with business objectives.


  • Strong project management and organizational capabilities.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting technology, software, digital products, consumer-facing services, or emerging technology initiatives.


  • Strong understanding of technology-related legal risks and regulatory frameworks and familiarity with issues relating to AI.


  • Experience conducting risk assessments and advising business stakeholders on novel legal issues.


  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex legal concepts into practical, business-oriented guidance.


  • Ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously and coordinate effectively with cross-functional stakeholders across multiple businesses and jurisdictions.

The anticipated annual base salary for this position is $170,000 to $200,000. In addition to the annual base salary, this role has an annual bonus target of 13%. This range does not include any other compensation components or other benefits that an individual may be eligible for. The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
