Lead the development of breakthrough technologies that will shape the future of hearing healthcare. As a Senior Systems Engineer at Starkey, you'll drive product architecture and innovation from concept through commercialization, collaborating across engineering, research, and industry partners to deliver cutting-edge hearing aids, software, mobile applications, and AI-enabled solutions that improve millions of lives.

JOB SUMMARY DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE OF JOB

The primary objective of this position is to lead the development and integration of new innovative capabilities and technologies to Starkey's products and services. Handle major initiatives that would clearly impact Starkey's business and collaborate with multiple groups as well as external companies and academia. Responsible for providing strategic vision and leadership in the ideation, architecture, and design of new products and technologies as well as the execution of the associated projects to ensure that they meet the requirements for the overall system including, but not limited to; hearing aids, accessories, fitting software, mobile applications, their components and sub-systems. Must possess a high-level technical expertise in a variety of fields, creativity, and internal drive to lead cross functional parties. Must be able to technically lead a development project from the ideation phase through execution, working with the development team and various resources throughout the organization.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/RESULTS

  • Lead, own, drive, and deliver new initiatives for current and future products

    • Manage new product/feature design projects, deliver on time.
    • Create product/feature architecture and design considering the various aspects of the entire system, the user experience, and the business
    • Create system and subsystem design documents (e.g. operational concept, system functionality description, state transition description, sequence diagrams, systems interface description, use cases, verification matrices, etc.).
    • Collaborate with internal and external parties to execute the design, build, and testing of proof of concepts
    • Document risks, motivations and tradeoffs associated with the various technical decisions
    • Ensure that there is alignment among the various products, technologies, roadmaps, and corporate objectives

  • Support the strategic vision of the system architecture, including interfaces, infrastructure, the definition of the elements and the relationships among the elements, and partitioning

    • Interact with cross functional groups to ensure desired capabilities are reflected accurately in all relevant documentation
    • Promote structures that facilitate improved performance, reduce interactions, lead to smaller processing footprints, lower current consumption, better experience, lower cost, and improved software architecture

  • Interact with potential partners, other functional groups, and customers regarding future products on a regular basis.

    • Facilitate communication between Advanced Development and other functional groups.
    • Work with outside companies and experts.
    • Assist and forming collaborations with external companies.

  • Understand and participate in establishing requirements
    • Understand system level requirements impacting hardware, firmware, and software deliverables.
    • Collaborate with others in the organization to define and improve system level requirements.
    • Define, document, and review System level requirements

  • Perform other duties commensurate with a "senior" role
    • Demonstrate independent work skills. perform work with little to no supervision
    • Utilize experience and critical thinking skills to make appropriate architecture and technology roadmap decisions; demonstrate innovative thinking and problem-solving skills
    • Provide technical consultation and guidance as needed; demonstrate technical expertise
    • Mentor, coach and provide work direction to other engineers, technicians, and interns
    • Submit patent disclosures and assist in various patent review and ideation efforts

  • This position may have technical lead responsibilities


JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education

  • B.S in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields; or
  • M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field; or
  • PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related field


Experience

  • B.S +10 years in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields; or
  • M.S. + 8 years; or
  • PhD + 5 years


Knowledge / Technical Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge of system engineering principles, including system architecture, system design, use cases, risk management, requirement generation, issue tracking tools
  • Proven experience in successfully leading development of complex systems. People management experience is a strong plus.
  • Knowledge of project management methodologies and tools.
  • Experience in Project or technical management in a large organization. Startup experience a plus.
  • Advanced working knowledge of complex devices which includes mechanical, Electrical, Radio communication, sensors, and software.
  • Intermediate to advanced working knowledge of one or more of the following.
  • Multi-component electrical devices, PC interfaces, communication protocols, digital design, DSP, wired and wireless communication
  • Signal processing concepts, including block diagrams, filters, Fourier analysis, audio, acoustics
  • Machine learning or Deep learning features, technologies, and design processes. Database and Backend system design a plus.
  • Software development process, source code control, version control, high- and low-level programming languages.
  • Experience working on products that includes user experience preferable in the medical or wearable domains
  • Knowledge of software programing, APIs, DSP programing.

Salary and Other Compensation:

The target pay rate for this position is between $113,000 - $155,400 annually. Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include: geography/market, skills, education, experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

This position is eligible for a bonus based upon performance results. There is no guarantee of payout.
