Full Job Description
About the role:
  • Samsara is hiring a Senior Software Engineer II to join our Developer Experience team within the larger Developer Experience organization. We are responsible for the 'outer-loop' of the SDLC, with a dotted line to our sister team Dev Agents, who is responsible for the 'inner-loop'.
  • We are building an AI-enabled software factory that transforms how Samsara moves code from pull request to production. We use AI to eliminate repetitive steps, shorten feedback loops, and help engineers spend more time on ensuring intent. Our systems provide AI-assisted PR auto-approvals, risk-aware reviews, and automated workflows that help changes become merge-ready. We are extending that intelligence through CI and CD with AI-assisted deployment checks, production validation, and automatic rollbacks. Our goal is to enable our engineers to scale out their productivity by making the 'outer-loop' autonomous while keeping it safe, observable, and reliable by default.
  • We tackle this ambitious goal from two different angles. First, we ensure our agents have the most context and their own sandbox to reduce the amount of guessing an agent needs to do in order to reach its result. Second, we ensure production is bulletproof, such that the blast radius of any issue is as minimal as possible. Our north star motto is "Merge and forget".

This is a remote position open to candidates residing in the United States. Relocation assistance will not be provided for this role.

In this role, you will:
  • Help scale our in-house CI/CD systems to meet the needs of a rapidly more efficient engineering organization and increasing pull-request throughput.
  • Reduce tech debt using efficient AI workflows that would otherwise be cost prohibitive in a non-AI workflow.
  • Design and build deployment safeguards that protect production at scale, making use of AI to monitor and fix issues.
  • Build the observability, evaluation, and feedback systems used to improve our AI-driven automation.
  • Serve as a thought leader for using AI to increase engineering productivity while maintaining a high bar for safety, quality, and signal over AI-generated slop.
  • Redefine the outer loop of the SDLC by designing AI-native workflows that increase engineering throughput without compromising reliability.
  • Push the threshold of what is possible with AI by turning emerging capabilities into safe, observable, and production-ready engineering systems.
  • Partner with product engineering teams to reduce operational toil, and make safe, AI-enabled delivery practices easy to adopt across the company. Ensuring their specific team needs are met.
  • Help keep Samsara at the cutting edge of AI-assisted software development by experimenting boldly, learning quickly, and converting successful experiments into platforms used across the company.

Minimum requirements for the role:
  • 8+ years of experience designing and building products in a software engineering team
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent practical experience
  • 3+ years of experience working on developer experience, CICD and/or platform engineering-focused teams
  • Experience in building AI workflows, orchestration systems or other harnesses of AI
  • Proven track record in architecting CICD systems, build and deploy platforms, and automated response workflows, Buildkite (or equivalent BYOC software).
  • Proven experience working on large-scale enterprise software applications
  • Experience in building and maintaining a large organization's Software Development Life Cycle (DevEx)
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or the like)
  • Experience in implementing AI-driven automation across the software development lifecycle (SDLC) to reduce developer friction, automate repetitive technical tasks, and accelerate time-to-delivery. Routinely applies AI tools across your workflow
  • Experienced at writing high-quality code (Go, Python, or equivalent) focused on infrastructure, deployment, and operations challenges
  • Experienced orchestrating multiple AI agents en-mass to tackle complex (non one-off) tasks.
  • Strong leadership and direction setting skills. Visionary as a tech lead. Able to set a high standard for peers, and keep it.

An ideal candidate also is:
  • Forward thinking about the capabilities AI, an advocate for AI usage
  • Experience with building in-house CICD systems
  • Experienced with building for FedRamp, StateRamp or other compliance requirements

You should apply if:
  • You want to be on the cutting edge of AI enabled software development.
  • You want to impact the industries that run our world: The software, firmware, and hardware you build will result in real-world impact - helping to keep the lights on, get food into grocery stores, and most importantly, ensure workers return home safely.
  • You want to build for scale: With over 2.3 million IoT devices deployed to our global customers, you will work on a range of new and mature technologies driving scalable innovation for customers across industries driving the world's physical operations.
  • You are a life-long learner: We have ambitious goals. Every Samsarian has a growth mindset as we work with a wide range of technologies, challenges, and customers that push us to learn on the go.
  • You believe customers are more than a number: Samsara engineers enjoy a rare closeness to the end user and you will have the opportunity to participate in customer interviews, collaborate with customer success and product managers, and use metrics to ensure our work is translating into better customer outcomes.
  • You are a team player: Working on our Samsara Engineering teams requires a mix of independent effort and collaboration. Motivated by our mission, we're all racing toward our connected operations vision, and we intend to win - together.
