Full Job Description
Leggett & Platt is seeking a Senior Software Engineer - Azure & Microsoft Cloud to join our engineering team at the IDEA Center in Lenexa, Kansas. This is an excellent opportunity to be part of a close-knit team in a global organization. In this role, you will design, build, and operate application services on the Microsoft Azure platform, balancing hands-on software development with cloud architecture, identity, and containerization responsibilities. We are looking for a highly collaborative engineer who writes high-quality code, understands the Azure ecosystem deeply, mentors others and communicates technical tradeoffs clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

So what will you bet doing as a Senior Software Engineer - Azure & Microsoft Cloud?
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs using C#/.NET and Python, deployed on Microsoft Azure.
  • Architect cloud-native application components that integrate with Azure platform services such as Azure App Service, Azure Functions, Azure SQL Database, and Storage.
  • Implement secure authentication and authorization using Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), including app registrations, RBAC, and managed identities.
  • Design and consume RESTful APIs, applying secure integration patterns (OAuth2/OpenID Connect) across internal and external services.
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps to automate build, test, and deployment across development, staging, and production environments.
  • Contribute to containerization efforts, packaging services with Docker and supporting deployment to Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) or Azure Container Apps.
  • Partner with cloud/infrastructure engineering on networking, environment configuration, and deployment practices that keep application and platform concerns aligned.
  • Instrument applications for observability using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Application Insights, and lead troubleshooting of production issues.
  • Participate in architecture and design discussions, weighing scalability, security, cost, and maintainability tradeoffs.
  • Conduct code reviews and mentor other engineers, sharing patterns and practices that raise the team's overall engineering quality.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product, QA, and business stakeholders, translating technical decisions into terms non-technical partners can act on.
  • Evaluate and help integrate AI-assisted development and Azure AI tooling to improve delivery speed and code quality.

To be successful in this role, you will need:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related field.
  • 5+ years of professional software development experience, including meaningful hands-on experience building and deploying applications on Microsoft Azure.
  • Strong proficiency in C# and/or Python for backend or service-oriented development.
  • Solid understanding of core Azure services: App Service, Functions, Azure SQL Database, Storage, and messaging services such as Service Bus or Event Grid.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD): authentication/authorization flows, app registrations, RBAC, and managed identities.
  • Experience designing and securing RESTful APIs, including OAuth2/OpenID Connect-based authentication patterns.
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, ideally Azure DevOps, including multi-stage builds and release approvals.
  • Familiarity with containerization concepts (Docker) and exposure to orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes or Azure Container Apps.
  • Proficiency with Git-based version control and Agile/Scrum delivery practices.
  • Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills spanning both application code and cloud infrastructure.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical tradeoffs to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor other engineers and elevate engineering practices through code review and knowledge sharing.

Things we consider a plus:
  • Production experience with Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) or Azure Container Apps for containerized workload deployment.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Bicep, ARM templates, or Terraform).
  • Familiarity with Azure API Management for securing and managing APIs at scale.
  • Exposure to Azure AI services (Azure OpenAI, Azure Cognitive Services, Azure Machine Learning) or AI-assisted development workflows.
  • Experience with GitOps deployment workflows (Flux or ArgoCD) for Kubernetes-based environments.
  • Relevant Microsoft certifications such as AZ-104, AZ-204, AZ-400, or AZ-305.
  • Knowledge of Azure security fundamentals beyond the basics: Key Vault, Defender for Cloud, Azure Policy.
  • Experience with test automation and TDD/BDD practices.
  • Background in performance tuning or cost optimization (FinOps) for cloud-hosted applications.
  • Prior experience acting as a technical point of contact or informal team lead on a project, without formal management responsibility.
