Full Job Description
We are seeking a Senior Scientist to join our Global R&D organization. In this role you will be responsible for leading projects focused on the development, validation, and execution of advanced analytical methods for chemical, structural, and performance characterization of filtration media and integrated filtration, purification, and separation devices or systems for Microelectronics, Food & Beverage, and Energy applications.

This role will focus on analytical methods for trace-level detection of particles, inorganic and organic molecular contaminants and media properties characterization, including chemical, structural, surface properties, porosity, and related material-performance and cleanliness attributes.

The Senior Scientist is expected to work independently within established processes, follow best laboratory safety practices, and provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary projects.

This position reports to an R&D Lab Manager in our Metrology, Analysis and Applications group and is an on-site role located in Cortland, New York, USA.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and thought leader to cross-functional teams while identifying method improvements and coordinating laboratory activities, including test planning, scheduling, method readiness, preventive maintenance, and vendor interactions.
  • Lead projects to develop, validate, refine and execute methods for trace-level chemical analysis of metals, extractables, leachables, organics, and other critical contaminants.
  • Lead the characterization of chemical composition, morphology, porosity, surface area, surface energy, thermal behavior, viscoelastic properties, and associated performance attributes of all components of filtration, purification, and separation devices.
  • Uphold all safety, quality, and laboratory compliance requirements.
  • Document experimental methods, data, analysis, conclusions, and recommendations in laboratory notebooks, technical reports, and project summaries


The essential requirements of the job include:
  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific or engineering discipline, with 3+ years of hands-on analytical laboratory experience or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated experience developing, validating, and executing analytical spectrometry, spectroscopic, and chromatographic methods for chemical and/or materials characterization, with strong data analysis, documentation, technical writing, and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently within established processes while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams, with a strong commitment to data integrity, and high-quality experimental execution.


Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements:
  • Must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
  • Ability to travel
  • Ability to work safely in a chemistry laboratory environment, including handling chemicals and operating analytical instrumentation.


It would be a plus if you also possess partial or full previous experience in:
  • High-end filtration evaluation, characterization or development experience
  • Chemical characterization using chromatographic, spectrometric, and spectroscopic tools such as LC-MS, GC-MS, ICP-MS, Ion Chromatography (IC), GPC, UV-VIS, Raman and IR spectroscopy.
  • Material characterization techniques such as differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), rheometry, porosimetry, surface energy analysis, SEM-EDXS, and optical microscopy, and dynamic and static light scattering.

The annual salary range for this role is $100,000 - $110,000. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. This range may be modified in the future.

This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
