Full Job Description

Brown Brothers Harriman is currently recruiting a Relationship Manager (RM) to join our multi-family (MFO) team in New York, NY. In this role you will serve as the point person for high-net-worth clients with at least $25 million of investable assets. This role includes a business development component in addition to exceptional client service and portfolio management.  You will manage your client accounts as a team and are encouraged to develop junior employees by mentoring them and bringing them to meetings. If you are experienced in sourcing and closing new business, able to handle complex accounts, demonstrate confidence, and partner well with colleagues, this opportunity is right for you.

Some of your key responsibilities include:  

Relationship Management and Business Development

  • Focus a significant amount of time on business development.

  • Manage complex accounts / client relationships; work with clients to identify strategic investment objectives and needs – integrating estate and tax planning

  • Ensure all clients are highly satisfied with the service they are receiving as demonstrated by continuing to maintain their assets at BBH and referring their friends and family to the firm

  • Develop and implement long-term new business strategy in coordination with other members of the BBH team

Investment Execution and Sales

  • Demonstrate deep knowledge of investment offerings and ensure alignment of investments with individual client needs. 

  • Utilize BBH guidelines and policy to assist with development of client specific plans (e.g., asset allocation).  Provide oversight when / where others are involved in modeling investments for clients.

  • Ensure your team timely completes account reviews and account maintenance, for example rebalancing accounts

  • Oversee and ultimately be the person responsible for the quality and accuracy of client review and prospective client pitch materials

Risk Management and Administration

  • Exercise sound, professional investment judgment on behalf of clients, while avoiding risks to the firm and demonstrate 100% adherence to the compliance requirements of the business, including Investment Policy Statements, Know Your Customer requirements, and timely documentation and written records of meetings and discussions.

  • Elevate high level risk issues and oversee junior team members execution relating to the completion of client requests on behalf of the client base.

Business and Professional Leadership

  • Demonstrate external “draw” because of personal and professional networks resulting in the ability to source and close business.

  • Coach, train and mentor junior team members, provide input on their career development; contribute to developing less experienced RMs, be physically present in the office when not traveling for business purposes

  • Be perceived by clients as a BBH executive and trusted advisor

Qualifications:

  • BA / BS required

  • 15+ years relevant portfolio management experience involving equities, bonds, or both

  • Excellent client services skills

  • Superior oral/written communication, analytical and thought leadership skills

  • Knowledge of asset allocation, trust, and fiduciary principles

  • Familiarity and comfort engaging with private business owners

  • Strong team player

  • Strong work ethic

  • CFA, CFP, and/or MBA a plus

Salary Range

Base Salary: $200,000 - $250,000 plus annual incentive

The anticipated base salary range(s) shown above are only for the indicated location(s) and may differ in other locations due to cost of living and labor considerations. Base salaries may vary based on factors such as skill, experience and qualification for the role.
