Position Description

GBI has always maintained that our employees are our greatest asset, and we are now seeking to add to our team. We are looking for a Sr. Project Manager to join our team in Boise, ID.

Position Summary

The Senior Project Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, execution, and financial performance of assigned heavy-civil construction projects. This role manages complex projects and may oversee multiple projects or project teams simultaneously.

The Senior Project Manager partners with owners, subcontractors, vendors, consultants, utility companies, agencies, field leadership, and craft employees to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contractual and quality requirements. This position also provides leadership and mentorship to Project Managers, Project Engineers, and other salaried employees and reports to the Project Executive or designated operational leader.

Position Description

Project Leadership and Execution

• • Lead multiple complex projects or major individual projects, typically valued at $25 million or more.
  • Maintain overall responsibility for project safety, quality, schedule, cost, contracts, and client satisfaction.
  • Direct all phases of assigned projects, from preconstruction and mobilization through closeout and warranty.
  • Coordinate project teams, subcontractors, vendors, consultants, crews, materials, and equipment.
  • Identify project risks, constraints, and performance issues and implement timely solutions.
  • Support estimating, preconstruction, and field operations as needed.

Financial and Commercial Management

• • Maintain accountability for project profitability and financial performance.
  • Manage budgets, forecasts, cash flow, commitments, revenue projections, and earned-value reporting.
  • Analyze cost, schedule, productivity, and margin performance and implement corrective action when needed.
  • Lead project financial reviews and communicate risks, opportunities, and forecasts to operational leadership.
  • Review and approve project commitments within established authority levels.
  • Manage owner and subcontractor change orders, including scope, pricing, negotiation, documentation, and resolution.
  • Identify opportunities to improve margin, productivity, and equipment utilization.

Contract Administration and Claims

• • Interpret and administer contracts, subcontracts, plans, specifications, and Company standard agreements.
  • Communicate contractual responsibilities, risks, rights, and obligations to project teams.
  • Prepare and review notices, correspondence, change documentation, and other records needed to protect the Company's interests.
  • Lead claims and dispute resolution, including documentation, analysis, negotiation, and settlement.
  • Negotiate and administer subcontracts, monitor performance, and review subcontractor payment requests.
  • Coordinate with operational leadership, the Contracts Manager, and legal counsel as appropriate.

Preconstruction, Planning, and Scheduling

• • Lead preconstruction, project handoff, constructability, logistics, staffing, equipment, and subcontracting efforts.
  • Review bid assumptions, plans, specifications, existing conditions, production expectations, and project risks.
  • Develop and maintain short-term, resource-loaded, and critical path schedules.
  • Evaluate schedule impacts and communicate effects on progress, cost, and profitability.
  • Forecast staffing, equipment, materials, subcontractors, and other project resources.
  • Ensure project teams maintain accurate planning and production-tracking processes.

Safety and Quality Leadership

• • Champion the Company's safety culture and integrate safety into project planning and execution.
  • Oversee project safety plans, hazard analyses, method statements, meetings, audits, and corrective actions.
  • Mentor project and field employees in safety leadership and accountability.
  • Lead the development and implementation of Job-Specific Quality Control Plans.
  • Ensure compliance with plans, specifications, testing, inspection, documentation, and closeout requirements.
  • Perform Quality Management System audits on assigned projects and others as needed.

Client and Business Development

• • Serve as a primary Company representative for owners, consultants, agencies, utility companies, subcontractors, and the public.
  • Build strong client relationships through clear communication, responsiveness, and consistent project delivery.
  • Identify repeat-business opportunities and new leads in public and private markets.
  • Support pursuits, proposals, interviews, presentations, and relationship-building activities.
  • Represent Goodfellow Bros. professionally within the industry and local communities.

Team Leadership and Development

• • Lead, supervise, and develop Project Managers, Project Engineers, and other assigned employees.
  • Set expectations, delegate responsibilities, and hold team members accountable for results.
  • Review project performance using financial, operational, and qualitative measures.
  • Mentor employees in leadership, contracts, scheduling, cost management, productivity, and career development.
  • Conduct or support performance reviews, development discussions, succession planning, and training.
  • Promote collaboration across project teams, field leadership, craft employees, and operational support groups.

This position offers a salary range of $145,000 to $175,000 annually.

Position Requirements

Required Education, Experience, and Technical Knowledge

• Bachelor's degree in construction management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred. Equivalent construction experience may be considered.
• 10+ experience managing heavy-civil construction projects, including responsibility for safety, financial performance, contracts, schedules, and project teams.
• Demonstrated success managing large, complex projects or multiple projects simultaneously.
• Advanced understanding of construction contracts, claims, change management, scheduling, cost controls, forecasting, and project documentation.
• Strong leadership experience with the ability to develop employees, manage performance, and build effective project teams.
• Proven ability to establish and maintain productive relationships with owners, agencies, subcontractors, vendors, consultants, and internal partners.
• Strong written, verbal, negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to evaluate complex project risks and make timely, sound business decisions.
• Proficiency with construction project management, scheduling, estimating, and financial reporting systems.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project locations as required.
