Full Job Description

The AES team is looking for an innovative and motivated individual to participate in the NERC compliance efforts for AES’s rapidly growing renewable energy and utilities portfolio. This position provides the opportunity to support one of the largest renewable energy and transmission portfolios in the U.S. while playing a pivotal role in ensuring that AES builds, operates and maintains the portfolio to standards that exceed industry best-practice.

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter and who will tackle multidisciplinary challenges proactively and in coordination with various AES teams and third parties. This role will support the growth of the AES NERC Compliance team as the renewable portfolio continues to expand. Under the general direction of the Director - NERC Compliance, the Sr. NERC Compliance Program Specialist is primarily responsible for supporting the organization's Internal Compliance Program (ICP) by coordinating compliance activities, monitoring program performance, facilitating risk assessments, lead new initiatives and support audit readiness efforts. This role serves as a central liaison between Compliance, Operations, SMEs, and regulatory entities to ensure ongoing compliance with NERC Reliability Standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform and report on NERC Compliance Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and compliance program metrics.
  • Coordinate and facilitate the annual Internal Compliance Program (ICP) review, including documentation of findings and improvement opportunities.
  • Conduct annual NERC compliance risk assessments and maintain the compliance risk register.
  • Lead any special projects related to NERC Compliance such as establishing new program for newly registered function within AES, etc.
  • Serve as the primary administrative coordinator for audits, spot checks, self-certifications, Certifications and other regulatory reviews.
  • Manage audit schedules, evidence requests, stakeholder communications, and regulatory submissions.
  • Maintain compliance program documentation, procedure templates, and evidence repositories structure with NERC Compliance team.
  • Initiate approval and change management process as necessary internally within NERC Compliance Team.
  • Support compliance training, awareness initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Assists NERC Compliance team in overseeing compliance responsibilities as necessary.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned by Director - Regulatory Compliance.

  • Knowledge of NERC Reliability Standards and compliance processes preferred.
  • Strong understanding of NERC Rules of Procedure, Registration and Certification.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, AI and project coordination skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, SharePoint, and reporting tools.

Key Success Measures

  • Timely completion of annual ICP reviews and risk assessments.
  • Accurate and actionable KPI reporting.
  • Successful coordination of audits and regulatory reviews.
  • Maintenance of audit-ready compliance evidence and documentation.
  • Effective tracking and closure of compliance actions and remediation activities.

The expected salary for this position, at commencement of employment, is between $100,000 and $124,950/year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position also includes annual bonus. The benefits offered for this position are: medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, 401(k) eligibility, and paid time off (including vacation, sick leave time, and parental leave).
