The pay range is $95,000.00 - $171,000.00

The Enterprise Item team plays a critical role in this experience by enabling consistent, accurate item data across the enterprise. Within Enterprise Item, the Item Taxonomy capability defines and governs how our assortment is organized and classified through product hierarchies and described through item data attribution.  This foundational work supports scalable item management, evolving business needs, and a seamless guest shopping experience.

About the Role: 

In this role, you’ll lead Target’s Item Taxonomy capability by executing against strategic priorities, strengthening governance, and driving operational excellence while partnering across the enterprise to support shared business priorities.  You’ll lead, coach, and develop a team of taxonomy experts accountable for end-to-end Item Taxonomy management, capability performance, and continuous improvement.  You’ll partner closely with enterprise teams to translate assortment and data needs into a scalable and adaptable Item Taxonomy.  Through enterprise-minded leadership, strategic planning, and data-driven decisions, you’ll deliver outcomes that improve classification accuracy and attribution relevance, simplify item processes, and enhance the guest shopping experience.

Core Responsibilities

• Team Leadership: Lead, coach, and develop a diverse team of taxonomy experts by setting clear expectations, providing actionable feedback, building talent, and fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and high performance.

• Capability Strategy: Lead the execution and ongoing refinement of the Item Taxonomy strategic roadmap, aligning priorities with evolving business needs, advancing capability maturity, and delivering measurable outcomes and meaningful value to the enterprise and guest. 

• Enterprise Partnerships & Alignment: Build trusted relationships with Enterprise Item leaders, global partners, and cross-functional teams to align priorities, establish clear accountability and ways of working, advocate for taxonomy needs, and simplify shared processes that support evolving business requirements.

• Capability Improvement: Drive continuous improvement of taxonomy processes, tools, and technology by partnering with Product to advance automation, streamline workflows, and deliver scalable solutions that improve operational efficiency and capability effectiveness.

• Operational Performance: Establish and monitor objectives, key results, and service-level expectations aligned with enterprise priorities; manage resources, risks, and delivery commitments while ensuring timely issue resolution and operational accountability.

• Enterprise Contributions: Participate in broader Enterprise Item initiatives and strategic efforts as business needs evolve.

About you:

• Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

• 6+ years of retail and/or e-commerce experience.

• 2+ years of experience directly leading and developing high performing teams

• Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and balance team, partner, and business needs.

• Demonstrated ability to build and advance a capability through strategic planning and execution, operational excellence, talent development, and measurable business outcomes.

• Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to navigate complex challenges and develop innovative, scalable, and sustainable solutions.

• Collaborative, enterprise-minded leader with proven ability to influence senior leaders, align global and cross-functional partners, and navigate ambiguity and change while maintaining clarity, accountability, and momentum.

• Strong analytical skills, with the ability to leverage data and insights to inform decisions, prioritize improvements, and drive results.

• Understanding of Item Taxonomy, Item Data, digital commerce or similar information management disciplines.

This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Target’s needs. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team member’s core role will need to be performedboth onsite at the Target HQ MN location the role is assigned to and virtually, depending upon what your role, team and tasks require for that day.
