Full Job Description
About the Role:
You'll run lifecycle marketing at Quizlet alongside our existing Lifecycle Manager, splitting the work by what each of you is best at or interested in rather than by seniority. Lifecycle is a small team with a large surface, so you'll be in the platform, writing and iterating copy, and launching campaigns yourself.
This work at Quizlet sits at an unusual intersection: our users are students whose needs change by season, by course, and by how close their exam is. Getting the right message to them at the right moment is a real problem, not a templating exercise. There's also a net-new product in the mix, which means building a lifecycle program from nothing rather than optimizing one that exists.
In this role, you will:
Own programs end-to-end - influence the brief, iterate the copy, project-manage creative development, build the campaign in our lifecycle platform, and launch it with minimal oversight.
Shape the lifecycle strategy and roadmap across activation, engagement, conversion, retention, and winback, via push, email, and in-product modals.
Partner closely with Product Management on instrumentation, triggers, eligibility, and launch coordination, so lifecycle is designed into features rather than bolted on afterward. Getting materially more synchronized with Product is a priority for the coming quarters.
Stand up lifecycle for a net-new product - evaluate how to do all of the above for something launching from zero, including a separate workspace, go-to-market coordination with Product Marketing, and a behavioral trigger roadmap built from scratch.
Grow our mobile push opt-in rate, expanding the addressable audience for one of our highest-performing channels.
Build toward richer, more real-time segmentation - behavioral signals that reflect how students actually study, and the cross-functional backing to make genuine personalization possible.
Own conversion and retention targets for lifecycle-influenced MAU and revenue, in close coordination with Product Management, and report on them with a clear view of what's working and what you're changing.
Run a disciplined experimentation program. You design the tests, hold the line on rigor, and retire programs that don't earn their place in the user's inbox - including owning message volume and frequency governance, and pushing back internally when a send isn't worth the attention it costs.
Partner with our Ads team on sponsored email and co-marketing campaigns, coordinating builds and keeping the overall user experience coherent.
Extend lifecycle into our international markets in close collaboration with Growth, Product, and Partnerships - adapting journeys, timing, and messaging to local academic calendars and norms rather than translating what works in the U.S.
What you bring to the table:
Hands-on experience owning lifecycle or CRM programs end-to-end for a consumer product at scale - brief through build through launch, not just strategy decks.
Fluency with a modern lifecycle platform: audience building, triggered journeys, templates, and campaign QA.
Knowledge of HTML/CSS, and experience with marketing automation software like Braze, Iterable or something comparable. We care that you can build, not which tool you learned on.
Email deliverability fundamentals - sender reputation, IP warming, and list hygiene.
Strong command of segmentation and experimentation, including the judgment to know when a result is real.
Proven partnership with Product and Engineering on instrumentation and triggers; you can hold your own in a roadmap conversation and translate marketing needs into something an engineer can build.
Comfort with the tools, technologies, and data required to build and evolve the function - you should be able to work directly with engineering and data science to describe what you need and why, and work with them on technical issues without an intermediary.
Experience using AI for copy experimentation and reporting automation, and an interest in pushing that further.
Strong writing. You can make a message sound like a person rather than a system.
Self-starter; proactive by nature, with a bias toward action over deliberation.
Bonus points if you have:
Experience with a freemium subscription business, especially conversion from free to paid.
Experience standing up lifecycle for a brand-new product, not just scaling an existing program.
Experience marketing to students or a young consumer audience.
Experience in a business with strong seasonality.
