You'll work across all phases of design - from early feasibility and architecture development through detailed engineering, construction support, commissioning, and turnover. Our projects span Data Centers, Water/Wastewater Treatment, Mineral Processing, Industrial Energy, Renewable Fuels, Specialty Chemical, and Advanced Manufacturing. Location

This position is based out of Lenexa, Kansas or Lone Tree, Colorado office and we offer relocation assistance. Some consideration may be made for other office locations in the US, near other major Kiewit offices.

Responsibilities

Lead Engineering & Design
  • Perform engineering studies, feasibility analyses, and cost evaluations to guide client decisions.
  • Lead project discipline team, ensuring technical excellence and on-schedule delivery.
  • Apply ISA, NFPA, NEC, API, ASME, and other relevant codes to produce compliant, constructible designs.


Drive Technical Execution
  • Administer and evaluate instrumentation and control equipment contracts, including DCS and PLC control systems.
  • Review OEM vendor packages for technical compliance and integration requirements.
  • Develop and manage I&C deliverables: Instrument Lists, Data Sheets, I/O Lists, Loop Drawings, Network Architecture, Cause & Effect Diagrams, and Control Narratives.
  • Review and manage I&C portions of P&IDs.
  • Apply a strong understanding of process and mechanical systems to effectively design and integrate I&C systems.
  • Ensure cybersecure network design by applying appropriate segmentation, access control, and secure communication practices for OT systems.


Support Construction & Commissioning
  • Respond to RFIs and field questions related to instrumentation, controls, operations, and startup.
  • Integrate with the startup and commissioning team to conduct field testing, troubleshooting, and turnover activities (up to 20% field travel).
  • Identify design constraints, propose solutions, and drive cost-effective engineering decisions.


Collaborate & Innovate
  • Work closely with process, mechanical, electrical, structural, civil, and architectural teams.
  • Apply a strong understanding of process and mechanical systems to effectively design and integrate I&C systems.
  • Mentor designers and junior engineers, contributing to a culture of technical excellence.
  • Lead quality checks to ensure accuracy, consistency, and constructability of design packages.


Qualifications

Required Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Physics, or related engineering discipline.
  • 15+ years in industrial I&C design using U.S. codes and standards with experience leading I&C design projects/teams from concept to commissioning/turnover.
  • Development of I&C deliverables such as instrument lists, I/O lists, data sheets, loop drawings, control narratives, cause and effect diagrams, network architecture, and installation details.
  • EPC project support through design, construction, startup, and commissioning.
  • DCS and PLC control system design, programming, configuration, or integration.
  • OT network architecture, including industrial Ethernet, network segmentation, switch configuration, and cybersecure design practices.
  • Data center or EPMS background, including power monitoring, metering, and SCADA or facility monitoring integration.
  • I&C startup / commissioning field experience required
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred

Base Compensation: $198,000/yr - $208,000/yr
(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, years of experience, skillset, and/or location)
