THE POSITION IN A NUTSHELL

SciensBuilding Solutions is seeking an experienced Senior Fire Alarm Systems Technician with programming, commissioning, and troubleshooting capabilities and experience. This position will work closely with our sales team, field project teams, and clients to ensure a sound design, and seamless installation and commissioning of our fire alarm solutions. This is a key position for our growing team and requires attention to detail in all aspects of executing projects. Customer and employee interface requires a high degree of effective human relations. Communication skills, both verbal and written, are important elements of the position.

WHAT YOU92LL BE DOING (and doing well!)

  • Responsible for reviewing system layouts and coordinating with engineering, project management, and sales departments for successful project execution.
  • Produce field surveys and daily project logs of activity.
  • Program and commission complex fire alarm systems leading to final acceptance by customers and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs).
  • Interact with AHJs for testing and resolution of any minor issues related to a fire alarm system final test.
  • Produce detailed commissioning and inspection reports in accordance with NFPA.
  • Responsible for complex troubleshooting and effective resolution.
  • Responsible for delivering projects on schedule and within cost budgets.
  • Responsible for programming systems via laptop computers.
  • Oversee project and vehicle inventory.
  • Demonstrate proper operation of equipment and control units to customers and explain proper use and how to respond to any system signals.
  • Manage onsite projects including their safety, quality, and performance.
  • Review and understand smoke reports and program all requirements related to a smoke control system.
  • Provide support, guidance, and expertise to the other technicians.
  • Train and develop other service technicians on equipment and company policies and procedures.
  • Manage job scheduling and job progress in an efficient and cost-effective manner, with a strong focus on quality.
  • Determine placement of audible and visual notification and detection systems or components while in the field.
  • Comply with industry standard procedures and Sciens safety programs/policies.


WHAT WE LIKE ABOUT YOU

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a technician role within the fire-life safety industry.
  • Advanced understanding of fire alarm circuit integrity and how to troubleshoot for circuit opens, shorts, or ground conditions.
  • Independent ability to program the manufacturer92s advanced system product platform(s)/graphical systems using a laptop computer.
  • Demonstratable knowledge of fire alarm control unit and field equipment termination.
  • Ability to make field decisions related to the installation of items such as audible and visual notification and detection placement.
  • Ability to read and understand a smoke report and program all requirements related to a smoke control system.
  • Ability to read fire system design drawings for installation and programming purposes.
  • Ability to communicate and coordinate with onsite contractors.
  • Ability to demonstrate proper operation of equipment and control units.
  • Advanced knowledge of NFPA 72 code requirements for the installation of a fire alarm system.
  • Advanced knowledge of Section 907 of the International Fire Code or state-adopted fire code.
  • Advanced knowledge of Section 909 of the International Building Code or state adopted building code.
  • Advanced knowledge of Article 760 of NFPA 70 (electrical code) for the installation of fire systems and circuiting.
  • Understanding of state, local, contract, and/or product specific certifications determined by the business.
  • NICET II or higher certification.
  • Knowledge of state fire procedures, filing, and requirements.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and with a sense of urgency.
  • Ability to work independently with some supervision.
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and able to obtain OSHA 10 certification.
  • Customer-focused; skilled in project and people management.
  • Proficient in issue resolution.
  • Excellent organizational, decision-making, and communication skills.
  • Be physically fit to perform the demanding work of the trade, including frequent lifting of up to 25 pounds, maximum occasional lifting up to 50 pounds; able to work from heights and climb ladders; standing and walking for most of the workday.
  • Ability to travel occasionally overnight, as needed.
  • Valid driver92s license & reliable transportation.

$35-$55 per hour, final offer based on experience
