Flexible Work Arrangement: Hybrid

Join our dynamic team as a (Sr.) Engineer, where you'll play a critical role in advancing interconnection projects within the PJM queue process. This position is your chance to be at the forefront of innovation, working on high-impact projects that support energy reliability and sustainability.

In this role, you will:
• Lead interconnection analyses to support and guide development projects through the PJM queue process.
• Evaluate customer requests to ensure compliance with NERC standards, FERC directives as well as PJM and transmission owner planning principles.
• Conduct key studies, including load generator deliverability, generation retirement, and system reliability assessments.
• Collaborate with stakeholders, manage consultant activities, and oversee technical evaluations such as load flow, short circuit, and dynamic stability studies.

Essential Functions:

  • Conduct comprehensive power system analyses to support reports for interconnection requests, retirement studies, and related projects.
  • Identify and assess transmission system upgrades necessary to address reliability and operational challenges.
  • Perform system adequacy and reliability evaluations to ensure optimal performance of the PJM grid.
  • Drive innovation by contributing to the development of new methods and practices in the planning process.
  • Prepare detailed reports and engaging presentations to support the initiatives of the System Planning Division.
  • Provide actionable recommendations to PJM management regarding the implementation of new bulk power facilities, programs, procedures, and policies.
  • Develop and maintain accurate transmission system models essential for generating reports on interconnection requests, system retirements, and other planning activities.
  • Collaborate with transmission owners to refine and develop reinforcements identified through various analyses.
  • Partner with colleagues within the System Planning Division to tackle complex engineering challenges.
  • Represent PJM on industry committees, task forces, and stakeholder groups addressing planning and engineering topics.

Characteristics and Qualifications:
Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Electrical Engineering
  • At least 1-5 years of experience performing power systems analysis, including short circuit analysis.
  • At least 1-5 years of experience effective mentor helping others perform complex studies
  • Ability to produce high-quality work products with attention to detail
  • Experience in quantitative and qualitative analysis
  • Ability to use mathematical and electrical theory
  • Ability to troubleshoot and provide technical support

Preferred
  • Masters degree in Engineering
  • MBA
  • Experience with PJM operations, markets, and planning functions
  • Experience using PSS/e (power system analysis program) and ASPEN
