Position Overview:
The Sr. Correspondent Purchaser is responsible for overseeing the end-to-end purchase process for closed correspondent loans. This role acts as the primary liaison with seller partners, ensuring that all documentation, collateral, and title issues are resolved and that loans meet strict company and investor requirements. The Sr. Correspondent Purchaser safeguards loan quality, mitigates risk, and ensures timely certification and funding, while maintaining communication and collaboration with internal teams and external sellers.
Job Responsibilities:
• Review and audit closed correspondent loan packages to confirm accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company policies and investor guidelines.
• Proactively identify and resolve all prior-to-purchase conditions, including liens, title exceptions, signature/endorsement discrepancies, settlement statements, and funding authorizations.
• Maintain clear, ongoing communications with sellers to facilitate timely clearance of conditions and a smooth purchase process.
• Enter, verify, and manage loan purchase data in the Loan Origination System (LOS) and related tracking tools, ensuring accuracy and pipeline visibility.
• Coordinate with internal Quality Control, Funding, and Accounting teams to reconcile discrepancies, validate wire instructions, confirm fees, and complete funding transfers.
• Ensure all purchases are executed in full compliance with federal and state lending regulations as well as investor requirements.
• Monitor purchase pipelines to ensure loans are certified and purchased within required timelines.
• Stay current with regulatory updates and investor policy changes that affect closing and purchasing procedures.
• Serve as a subject matter expert and provide mentorship or guidance to junior staff on correspondent purchasing practices.
• Participate in process improvement initiatives, contributing ideas to strengthen efficiency and loan quality controls.
• Perform additional duties as assigned to support business objectives.
Qualifications and Skills:
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
• 5+ years of mortgage industry experience in correspondent lending, loan purchase, post-closing, or due diligence.
• Experience in successfully managing multiple purchase files and prioritizing tasks to meet tight deadlines.
• Advanced knowledge of loan documentation, collateral review, title clearance, and investor purchase requirements.
• Excellent attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and compliance.
• Skilled in working independently with little supervision while contributing effectively to collaborative team environments.
• Excellent communication, relationship management, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Proficiency in Loan Origination Systems.
