Full Job Description
As a Sr. Battery Systems Engineer, you will own the development and maturation of battery requirements, verification criteria, and acceptance limits from early design through production. You will connect system requirements, battery physics, engineering analysis, test results, and manufacturing data to establish technically defensible requirements and pass/fail criteria.

Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Key job responsibilities

- Develop, maintain, and document battery system requirements across electrical, thermal, performance, safety, reliability, lifetime, and environmental domains.

- Decompose satellite and system-level requirements into battery pack, module, BMS, cell, and test-level requirements.

- Translate requirements into measurable verification criteria, test parameters, pass/fail limits, engineering guard bands, and production acceptance limits.

- Establish the technical rationale for requirements and limits using battery models, simulation, tolerance analysis, Monte Carlo methods, measurement uncertainty, component specifications, characterization data, and empirical test results.

- Define appropriate engineering margins considering mission conditions, degradation, manufacturing variation, measurement uncertainty, and worst-case operating conditions.

- Establish and maintain requirement-to-verification traceability, ensuring critical requirements have appropriate verification methods and acceptance criteria.

- Analyze characterization, development, qualification, reliability, lifecycle, and production test data to validate assumptions, improve models, and assess requirement maturity.

- Apply Statistical Process Control (SPC), process capability analysis, distribution analysis, and trend monitoring to understand manufacturing variation and identify emerging shifts or risks.

- Investigate outliers, specification excursions, and unexpected trends to distinguish product issues from measurement variation, process drift, or inappropriate acceptance limits.

- Periodically reassess engineering and production limits as additional data becomes available while maintaining clear separation between product requirements, engineering guard bands, and manufacturing control limits.

- Partner with Systems, Battery, Electrical, Mechanical, Test, Manufacturing, Quality, Reliability, Software, and Modeling teams to drive requirement and limit changes through technical review and configuration control.

- Maintain technical documentation, including assumptions, analyses, models, verification evidence, decisions, and change history throughout the product lifecycle.
