Senior Associate - Accounting & Finance

Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Group USA (MSIG USA)

Position Summary

MSIG USA is seeking a Senior Associate to support investment accounting, insurance operations, and financial reporting activities within its Finance organization. The successful candidate will bring three to five years of property and casualty insurance accounting experience, including working knowledge of U.S. NAIC statutory accounting principles and U.S. GAAP. Experience with IFRS is a plus. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate across Finance, Investments, Actuarial, Operations, FP&A, and other business functions.

Key Responsibilities
• Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual investment accounting activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, roll-forwards, and financial statement support.
• Support accounting for fixed-income securities, equities, short-term investments, realized and unrealized gains and losses, investment income, impairments, and related transactions.
• Prepare and review investment-related schedules and disclosures for U.S. NAIC statutory and IFRS reporting.
• Support operational accounting processes involving premiums, claims, reserves, commissions, receivables, payables, and intercompany transactions, as assigned.
• Assist with statutory financial statements, regulatory schedules, management reporting, and supporting documentation.
• Analyze general ledger balances and resolve differences among the general ledger, investment accounting records, custodial statements, and other source systems.
• Partner with Investment, Treasury, Actuarial, Tax, Reinsurance, and insurance operations teams to ensure complete and accurate accounting for business activity.
• Assist with internal and external audits, regulatory examinations, and requests for supporting documentation.
• Maintain effective internal controls and contribute to process improvements, automation, documentation, and data-quality initiatives.
• Research accounting issues and help assess the impact of new statutory, U.S. GAAP, and, where applicable, IFRS guidance.
• Perform monthly lease accounting reporting
• Perform ad hoc analyses and participate in Finance projects and system implementations.

Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Three to five years of accounting experience within the insurance industry, preferably in property and casualty
• Experience applying U.S. NAIC statutory accounting principles (yellowbooks) and U.S. GAAP.
• Investment accounting experience, including reconciliations, close activities, and financial or regulatory reporting.
• Understanding of insurance operations and the flow of transactions from source systems to the general ledger and financial statements for direct, assumed, and ceded business.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with careful attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and communicate effectively with colleagues at different levels of the organization.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience working with general ledger, investment accounting, or financial reporting systems.

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with IFRS reporting or reconciliation between IFRS, U.S. GAAP, and statutory bases of accounting.
• Experience with investment accounting platforms, data tools, financial reporting applications, and Microsoft Copilot.
• Knowledge of internal control frameworks and experience supporting audits or regulatory examinations.
• Experience with managing general agent (MGA) accounting.
• Experience in a multi-entity or international insurance organization including foreign exchange.
• Experience with working with offshore staff.
• CPA designation or progress toward CPA certification.

Salary Range $125,000 to $155,000. Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
