Position Overview

Central Maine Healthcare is seeking a Spine Surgeon to join its team serving the Central Maine region. The Spine Surgeon is responsible for evaluating, diagnosing, and surgically treating patients with disorders and injuries of the spine. The surgeon provides comprehensive spine care, collaborates with other medical professionals, and participates in both surgical and non-surgical treatment planning.

Responsibilities
  • Evaluate patients with spinal disorders, injuries, deformities, and degenerative conditions.
  • Perform spinal surgical procedures, including cervical, thoracic, and lumbar surgeries as appropriate.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans based on patient history, imaging, examination, and clinical findings.
  • Provide non-operative treatment recommendations when surgery is not indicated.
  • Review and interpret diagnostic imaging such as X-rays, CT scans, and MRI studies.
  • Explain diagnoses, treatment options, risks, benefits, and expected outcomes to patients and families.
  • Provide preoperative and postoperative care and monitor patient recovery.
  • Collaborate with neurologists, pain specialists, physical therapists, primary-care physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation.
  • Participate in hospital or surgical-center activities, quality-improvement initiatives, and continuing medical education.
  • Follow applicable clinical, regulatory, patient-safety, and infection-control standards.
Qualifications
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree.
  • Completion of an accredited orthopedic surgery or neurosurgery residency.
  • Fellowship training in spine surgery preferred or required, depending on the position.
  • Board certification or board eligibility in the applicable specialty.
  • Current medical license in the state of practice.
  • Eligible for hospital/surgical privileges.
  • Strong clinical judgment, communication, and surgical skills.
Pay Transparency

Central Maine Medical Center offers competitive compensation and a reasonable compensation estimate for this role is $760,000 to $825,000. The exact starting compensation to be offered will be determined at the time of selecting an applicant for hire, in which a wide range of factors will be considered, including but not limited to, skillset, years of applicable experience, education, credentials and licensure.
