Specialty Mechanical-Welding Engineer II, Field Outage Services

Role Overview

The Specialty Mechanical-Welding Engineer II, Field Outage Services will serve primarily as a weld engineer on development and execution of repair and upgrade projects in the field. The candidate would also be asked to lead other upgrade and repair projects in the field that may not consist of welding processes that support the Specialty Services Mechanical (SS-M) team. The role requires flexibility, ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and strong multitasking skills in a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage work to accomplish, repair, analysis, or operation of customer's equipment including, steam turbines, gas turbines, generators, and auxiliaries;
  • Must be able to understand fundamental engineering concepts, practices and procedures of turbine outage maintenance.
  • Must be able to develop WPS for the multitude of materials and applications used in repair and upgrade processes.
  • Must be able to lead and maintain the Welding Training program for internal welders.
  • Without supervision, perform standard tasks using established methods, principles, concepts and procedures related to turbine outage maintenance.
  • Must be able to direct and manage supervisors, mechanical specialists, and sub-contractors during turbine outage maintenance;
  • Provide turbine and turbine interface knowledge and expertise to management, product line engineers and suppliers to accomplish assignments.
  • Must be able to be the forward face of the company when dealing with customer personnel.
  • Must be able to coordinate at a high level with multiple parties simultaneously including inner-company departments and third-party vendors.
  • Heavy overnight travel (at least 70%) by land and/or air;
  • Must be able to work long hours for long periods of time;
  • Must be able to assist technical and non-technical personnel at the job site in determining company responsibility and actions.
  • Must be able to assign work to other technical/professional personnel as necessary.
  • Must be able to work as floor engineer on outage maintenance for Turbine (Minor and Major) Inspections on OEM and Non-OEM frames when assigned.
  • Interface with customer personnel to coordinate work and provide progress.
  • Interpret and apply drawings, field procedures, and technical documents.
  • Must be able to use and learn to prepare standard field service documentation in timely fashion (status reports, timesheets, evaluations, turnover, expense reports, technical documentation, etc.);
  • Must be able to review and understand simple contracts, work scopes & division of responsibilities.
  • Must be able learn to prepare outage planning abilities (service / equipment vendor confirmation, technical documentation preparation).
  • Prepare and submit accurate reports regarding conditions, required actions and obtained results.
  • Must be able to read and understand component work break down structures and work packages.
  • Must be able to use Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Project and SharePoint.
  • Lead a culture of "Zero Incidents" in the execution of all Mitsubishi Power and subcontractor work scope
  • Ensure Quality of workmanship and customer service is meeting the expectations of Mitsubishi Power and Customer.
  • Perform other such duties as may be required


Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree (BS) in Welding or Metallurgical Engineering from four-year College or university; and at least five (5) years related experience of onsite turbine outage support.
  • Strong ability to interpret technical documents (drawings, schematics, procedures).
  • Advanced understanding of welding processes including TIG, MIG, and SMAW as well as basic machining operations including lathes, knee-mills, boring bars.
  • Advanced understanding and experience working with automated TIG welding systems and Submerged Arc Welding (SAW) processes
  • Ability to communicate decisively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in arithmetic operations and the application of mathematical concepts such as probability, statistics, and geometry, with the ability to apply these concepts to practical situations.
  • Strong reasoning skills to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Proficiency in database management, project management tools, spreadsheets, word processing, email, graphics, technical diagrams, flowchart software, and ERP systems.
  • Valid driver's license and passport required.
