Overview

Software Test Engineer - Essex Management

Location - Mostly remote within the US. (Please be advised that there is an expectation despite majority of the work being remote that one can come into the HQ in Rockville, Maryland roughly 10% of the year for new project kicks offs, team building, company town halls etc.)

Primary Purpose

This role works as part of the technical test engineering team and will be focused on testing enterprise and informatics software systems to support cancer trials and research. This role provides strong career growth opportunities in an innovative technology environment working in one of our nation's premiere research organizations.

Responsibilities

  • As an individual contributor, prioritize and complete testing tasks on assigned projects.
  • Develop test scenarios and procedures to ensure enterprise and informatics software systems are scalable, reliable, and performant.
  • Write automated tests and integrate them with the CI/CD pipeline. Work with the engineering team to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
  • Participate in SCRUM Sprint planning, standup, review, and retrospective meetings.
  • Work in a collaborative cross-functional team environment to move features (JIRA tasks) across all tiers in a CI/CD Agile SCRUM environment.
  • Contribute articles to the technical knowledge base to support knowledge sharing across teams.
  • Be a proactive part of the software test engineering team, looking to make improvements to our engineering practice.
  • Shadow senior team members during interviews.
  • Mentor junior members of the team.

Qualifications

Required Experience:
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written).
  • Experience coding in Python, C#/.NET, Javascript, Ruby, or comparable programming languages.
  • Experience testing hardware and software for enterprise and informatics systems, that run a cloud (AWS, Azure, GCP) environment.
  • Develop and define major and minor characteristics of quality, including quality metrics and scoring parameters
  • Experience working in an agile development environment with methodologies such as SCRUM or Kanban.
  • Experience using Git, GitHub, and GitHub Actions.
  • Experience with behavior-driven development testing using frameworks such as Cucumber and Behave.
  • Experience with performance and load testing using tools like K6, LoadRunner, JMeter, and Artillery.
  • 3 years of software testing experience in one or more programming languages.
  • Possession of a Bachelor or Graduate degree in a technical field such as Computer Science from an accredited college or university (according to CHEA).
  • Working knowledge in Section 508 accessibility testing.


Preferred Experience:
  • Experience with AI-assisted engineering practices and tools such as GitHub Copilot, Codex, or Claude Code, as well as conducting efficient and accurate code reviews of AI-generated code.
  • 4 years of software testing experience in one or more programming languages.
  • ISTQB Foundation and/or Agile testing certification is a plus.
  • Cloud (AWS, GCP, Azure) certification is a plus. .
  • Possession of a Bachelor or Graduate degree in a technical field such as Computer Science from an accredited college or university (according to CHEA).
