Description

As a Software Engineer on the Tyler Wisconsin team, you will design, build, and maintain applications used every day by Wisconsin residents, businesses, and state agency staff. You will work across a portfolio that spans long-lived ASP.NET Framework applications and new development on modern .NET, owning features end to end.

This is a hybrid role which requires 3 days onsite, in office, per week.
Responsibilities
  • Design and deliver complete features, from requirements through deployment.
  • Work full stack: database schema, through API, through user interface.
  • Maintain, enhance, and modernize existing ASP.NET Framework applications, including WCF services, and help migrate them onto modern .NET.
  • Debug and troubleshoot across the stack, including database and query performance.
  • Follow and champion best practices for security, testing, and API design.
  • Own testing strategy and code coverage for the areas you work in.
  • Use agentic AI development tools with human-in-the-loop review, remaining personally accountable for the code you deliver.
  • Contribute to and consume shared internal code libraries.
  • Build to WCAG accessibility standards, and work within regulatory requirements such as HIPAA, SOX, and PCI.
  • Write technical documentation and give constructive code review feedback.
  • Mentor junior engineers and help onboard new team members.
  • Identify and implement process improvements that make the team faster.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation.
Qualifications

Required
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 2+ years of professional software development experience with clear progression in technical responsibility.
  • Proficiency in C# and .NET, across both .NET Framework and modern .NET.
  • Web development with ASP.NET MVC, Razor Pages, RESTful APIs, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and Bootstrap. Working knowledge of jQuery as it appears in existing applications.
  • Microsoft SQL Server, including schema design and query writing, plus Entity Framework 6 and EF Core.
  • Solid grounding in architecture principles, design patterns, and scalable system design.
  • Secure coding practices: authentication, role-based access control, n-tier architecture, encryption at rest and in transit, and input validation.
  • CI/CD pipelines, containerization with Docker, and intermediate Git and GitHub skills including branching strategies and collaborative workflows.
  • Practical experience with agentic AI coding tools and human-in-the-loop review patterns.
  • Experience across the full software development lifecycle, with a track record of shipping features and supporting production systems.
  • Clear written and verbal communication for documentation, code review, and cross-functional work.

Work schedule and location

This is a hybrid position based in Madison, Wisconsin. You will work from the Madison office on Wednesdays and Thursdays and remotely the remaining three days and should expect occasional in-person meetings with Wisconsin state agency partners. Remote days require a dedicated home office set up for professional software development.
