Full Job Description
Software Engineer - Engineering Automation & Measurement Systems
Position Summary
Do you enjoy building software that interacts with real-world hardware? Are you energized by creating tools that automate complex engineering tasks, accelerate data collection, and enable engineers to solve difficult technical problems more efficiently?
We are seeking a Software Engineer to join our Engineering Automation team. In this role, you will develop software solutions that support the characterization, validation, and application of advanced RF, microwave, and millimeter-wave semiconductor products. A significant portion of this work involves developing Python-based automation systems for instrument control, data acquisition, workflow automation, and analysis of large-scale engineering datasets.
Working alongside RF engineers, application engineers, product engineers, and laboratory personnel, you will create software that controls sophisticated measurement equipment, automates engineering workflows, and manages large volumes of technical data. Your work will directly impact product development, customer support, and engineering productivity across the organization.
What You'll Do
• Develop software applications that support engineering test, characterization, and validation activities.
• Design and maintain instrument-control software for laboratory equipment including network analyzers, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, power meters, switch matrices, probe stations, and related test systems.
• Automate engineering workflows to reduce manual effort and improve repeatability.
• Develop graphical user interfaces, dashboards, and visualization tools that improve access to engineering data.
• Create software that enables collection, management, analysis, and reporting of large-scale engineering characterization datasets.
• Gather requirements for new software features and enhancements, then develop implementation plans to deliver them.
• Communicate new capabilities to users through documentation, demonstrations, and occasional training sessions.
• Troubleshoot and resolve software, instrumentation, and system-integration issues.
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to understand measurement processes and implement automation solutions.
• Contribute to software testing, validation, documentation, and continuous improvement efforts.
• Support the integration of new instrumentation, measurement techniques, and automation capabilities into existing software platforms.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Experience with Python or another modern programming language.
• Experience using Git for source control.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team.
• Ability to understand requirements, develop implementation plans with guidance, and contribute to software projects through completion.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Detail-oriented with the ability to comply with data security, confidentiality, and software quality requirements.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Passion for automation, continuous improvement, and empowering those around you through well-designed software.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with JavaScript/TypeScript.
• Experience with relational databases and SQL.
• Familiarity with REST APIs and software integration techniques.
• Experience with GitLab CI/CD or similar automated build and deployment systems.
• Experience efficiently processing and analyzing large datasets.
• Experience developing software for automated test systems, laboratory instrumentation, robotics, manufacturing systems, or industrial automation.
• Experience developing graphical user interfaces.
• Exposure to electronics, RF systems, instrumentation, embedded systems, or scientific computing environments.
• Experience working with engineering or technical datasets.
