Meet the Team: Torc's Map Enablement team is looking for a Software Engineer to help deliver and scale its mapping and routing system in preparation for Torc's commercial expansion. A strong technical foundation in delivering data processing pipelines and APIs is important for this role, along with the judgment to make sound design decisions when requirements are loosely defined. This individual will collaborate with engineering teams that use Map Enablement's software, creating tailored solutions and turning feedback into features.
What You'll Do: - Design and build scalable, cost-effective mapping and routing data pipelines and services in preparation for commercial launch.
- Take ambiguous or partially-defined problems from internal customers and drive them to a concrete technical design, scoping tradeoffs independently before looping in senior engineers.
- Work with Map Enablement and neighboring teams to understand customer needs and translate them into well-scoped features.
- Participate in and provide substantive feedback on technical design and code reviews.
- Promote operational excellence by implementing effective testing, monitoring, and alerting for Map Enablement's services and pipelines.
- Participate in the on-call rotation to support the health of our services.
- Contribute to project planning, helping shape priorities based on customer expectations and technical constraints.
- Uphold a culture of collaboration, transparency, creativity, inclusion, and data-driven decision-making.
What You'll Need to Succeed: - Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering or related technical field plus demonstrates competences and technical proficiencies typically acquired through 4+ years of experience OR Master's Degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering or related technical field plus demonstrates competences and technical proficiencies typically acquired through 0-3+ years of experience
- Solid knowledge of at least one programming language (C++, Python), Python preferred.
- Experience with AWS services (S3, Lambda, Step Functions, IAM, EventBridge, Glue, Athena).
- Experience building and operating high-throughput data processing pipelines.
- Demonstrated ability to work through vague or shifting requirements and independently propose a technical path forward.
- Strong technical communication skills, written and verbal, that scale across a diverse workforce.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze and debug complex software defects.
- Experience with source control and agile workflows such as GitHub and JIRA.
Bonus Points: - Understanding of geospatial data concepts and tools (GeoJSON, PostGIS, QGIS, OSM, etc.)
- Knowledge of machine learning techniques for geospatial data analysis
- Experience with high-definition mapping
- Experience scaling autonomous systems
- Prior experience in navigation or the automotive industry
