Full Job Description
About the role

We're looking for a Software Engineer to build the software behind fab2's hardware manufacturing operation.

We build our own equipment, including robots, plasma generators, precision actuators, boards, chambers, and valves. You'll build the systems that help us design, assemble, test, track, and scale that manufacturing process, without inheriting the constraints of legacy manufacturing software. This is a greenfield role for someone who likes turning messy physical workflows into simple software and working directly with the people using it.

Responsibilities
  • Own our internal hardware manufacturing platform and work directly with engineers and technicians to shape how it should work.
  • Design the systems behind BOMs, parts, revisions, serial numbers, and hardware traceability.
  • Develop the tools technicians use to turn engineering designs into assembly steps, test procedures, and completed work.
  • Create test workflows that capture acceptance criteria and results for each part or assembly.
  • Build inventory and purchasing systems that show what we have, what we need, and what's blocking a build.
  • Tie design, inventory, build, and test data together so hardware can be traced from drawing to finished assembly.

Required Experience
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals and experience shipping production applications.
  • Full-stack ability across frontend, backend, databases, and system design.
  • Ability to turn complex real-world workflows into simple, useful software.
  • Strong product instincts and willingness to work directly with engineers and technicians on the floor.
  • Effective with AI coding tools while still able to read, write, debug, and reason about code independently.
  • Strong technical communication and a high degree of ownership.

Nice-to-have
  • Founding engineer, CTO, or early-stage startup background.
  • Experience working with hardware, embedded systems, robotics, or manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with MES, ERP, PLM, or other manufacturing systems.
  • Hands-on work with BOMs, inventory, traceability, work orders, manufacturing test, or supply chain.
  • Background in semiconductor, aerospace, automotive, or industrial automation.
