Overview

The Software Engineer - Azure is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining technology-based business solutions that support organizational objectives and business operations. This role participates in the full software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, solution design, development, testing, deployment, and production support.

Working within a Microsoft technology stack, the Software Engineer leverages expertise in C#, .NET, Azure, SQL, Web APIs, and microservices architecture to deliver scalable, secure, and high-performing applications. The role collaborates with Business Analysts, Quality Assurance, Service Desk, IT Operations, and business stakeholders to build and support solutions that meet both functional and technical requirements.

This position requires strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, a commitment to software quality, and the ability to adapt to evolving technologies, methodologies, and business needs.

Key Responsibilities

Software Development & Implementation

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain software applications, APIs, and services using C# and the Microsoft .NET framework.
• Execute development and implementation activities for proprietary business systems and technology solutions.
• Write clean, maintainable, and testable code following established development standards and best practices.
• Develop and support Web APIs, web services, and microservices-based solutions.
• Review, refactor, and optimize existing applications to improve performance, scalability, and maintainability.
• Participate in code reviews to ensure compliance with coding standards and software engineering best practices.
• Create technical documentation, including application specifications, architecture diagrams, operational procedures, and change documentation.

Solution Design & Collaboration

• Analyze business and system requirements to design effective technical solutions.
• Assist with technical design and development activities that align with functional and technical requirements.
• Collaborate with Business Analysts, Quality Assurance, Service Desk, IT Operations, and other stakeholders throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Research, document, and implement business and technical requirements.
• Participate in software architecture discussions and contribute to design decisions that support long-term scalability and maintainability.
• Support cross-functional and cross-departmental initiatives as needed.

Azure Cloud & Production Support

• Develop and maintain cloud-based applications utilizing Microsoft Azure services, including Azure Functions.
• Support and troubleshoot production applications, integrations, and system issues.
• Run and monitor performance testing activities to identify opportunities for optimization and continuous improvement.
• Perform root cause analysis and coordinate resolution efforts across technical teams.
• Evaluate and implement solutions that improve system performance, reliability, and operational efficiency.

Quality & Continuous Improvement

• Support testing, debugging, and quality assurance efforts to ensure successful software releases.
• Utilize Test-Driven Development (TDD) and other quality-focused development methodologies.
• Contribute to the establishment and adoption of coding standards, development practices, and technical documentation standards.
• Research emerging technologies, development tools, and industry trends, including AI-assisted development capabilities, and apply them where appropriate.
• Promote a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence across the development team.

• Prioritizing and triaging production support issues assigned by management or technical leads.
• Determining implementation approaches that best satisfy functional and technical requirements.
• Evaluating technical trade-offs between alternative development solutions.
• Selecting coding patterns, frameworks, and design approaches to optimize scalability, performance, and maintainability.
• Troubleshooting system errors and coordinating appropriate resolution efforts.
• Identifying opportunities to improve software quality, development processes, and system performance.

Required Qualifications

• Associate degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field required.
• Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
• Five (5) or more years of professional software development experience.
• Strong experience developing applications using C# and the Microsoft .NET framework.
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure, including Azure Functions and cloud-hosted applications.
• Experience developing and supporting Web APIs, web services, and microservices architectures.
• Strong SQL and relational database experience, including query development and optimization.
• Experience with Test-Driven Development (TDD) and software quality best practices.
• Experience working in Agile software development environments.
• Strong troubleshooting, debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Azure Logic Apps and other Azure integration services.
• Experience with Angular or modern front-end frameworks.
• Experience using Entity Framework Core or comparable object-relational mapping (ORM) tools.
• Experience with Git or other source control systems.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools and modern software engineering workflows.
• Microsoft Azure certifications such as Azure Fundamentals or Azure Developer Associate.

Technical Knowledge & Skills

• Advanced knowledge of C# and the Microsoft .NET framework.
• Experience developing and supporting Azure cloud solutions.
• Strong understanding of REST APIs, web services, and microservices architecture.
• Solid knowledge of SQL Server, relational database concepts, and query optimization.
• Understanding of object-oriented programming principles and software design patterns.
• Knowledge of software development lifecycle methodologies and Agile practices.
• Ability to evaluate emerging technologies and recommend effective technical solutions.
• Strong relationship-building and collaboration skills within cross-functional teams.

Physical Requirements
