Key job responsibilities
- Design and build large-scale distributed services for inventory selection decisions, writing high-quality code in Java or Scala while applying object-oriented principles and system design patterns
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including data scientists, economists, and product managers to translate business requirements into technical solutions, utilizing Generative AI capabilities to accelerate development and expand engineering possibilities
- Own the full software development lifecycle from scoping and design through testing, deployment, and maintenance, actively participating in code reviews and providing meaningful technical feedback to team members
- Lead operational excellence initiatives by monitoring system performance, identifying root causes of issues, and implementing permanent solutions that improve reliability and customer experience
- Evaluate technical tradeoffs in the problem space, balance short-term needs with long-term architectural goals, and make informed decisions on feature development priorities while building trust with partners through domain expertise
A day in the life
Your day starts with scrum planning where you align with your team on priorities and technical approaches. You'll spend time converting stakeholder requirements into product features, design systems, writing code, and collaborating with economists and data scientists on optimization algorithms. You'll leverage Generative AI tools to accelerate implementation and explore creative solutions. Throughout the day, you participate in design discussions, conduct code reviews, and troubleshoot production systems. You regularly demo progress to stakeholders, gathering feedback to continuously refine and improve your solutions.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 1+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience
- 1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using: C#, C++, Java, or Perl experience
- 1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience
- Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
