We9re looking for a Software Architect to define the architecture, design standards, and technical direction of SONIFI Health9s software solutions. Reporting to the VP Healthcare Engineering, you9ll work across Engineering, Product, Program Management, Infrastructure, and Security to design end-to-end solutions that balance innovation, cost, maintainability, performance, security, compliance, and business objectives.
This is a remote, individual contributor role with significant technical leadership responsibility. You won9t directly manage a team, but you9ll influence how solutions are designed and delivered, establish architectural best practices across the Healthcare product portfolio, and provide technical direction, coaching, and development to software engineers.
What you9ll do- Define and document solution architectures for SONIFI Health applications, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards, performance requirements, regulatory needs, and business objectives.
- Lead high-level design decisions for complex projects, setting direction for system components, integrations, and technology selection while maintaining architectural consistency across applications for scalability, maintainability, and interoperability.
- Partner with Product Managers and Program Managers to ensure architecture supports business strategy, budget, and delivery timelines, and collaborate with Software Engineering teams to translate architecture into detailed technical designs and guide implementation throughout the development lifecycle.
- Evaluate and recommend technologies and frameworks, including AWS cloud platforms, messaging systems, databases, and integration tools, and champion microservices and modular architectures where appropriate to support maintainability and independent scaling.
- Provide architectural oversight for system performance, reliability, security, and compliance, including HIPAA and SOC 2, while working closely with Infrastructure and Security teams to validate system design, cloud configurations, and deployment strategies.
- Contribute to architecture governance through review boards, documentation standards, and technical decision records that promote consistent, high-quality technical decisions across the Healthcare product portfolio.
- Mentor and coach software engineers in design thinking, code quality, architectural awareness, and technical decision-making while providing technical leadership without direct supervisory responsibility.
- Collaborate across Engineering, Product, Operations, and other cross-functional teams to support successful integrations with financial and operational systems, and communicate effectively with company leadership, customers, and vendors when needed.
What you9ll need- Bachelor9s degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering and a minimum of 7 years of software engineering experience, including at least 3 years in architecture or technical leadership roles.
- Strong knowledge of enterprise and solution architecture methodologies, domain-driven design, and software design patterns.
- Demonstrated experience architecting systems on AWS, including EC2, Lambda, API Gateway, RDS, S3, and related cloud technologies.
- Proficiency with REST, GraphQL, and gRPC APIs; message queues including SNS, SQS, and RabbitMQ; and event-driven architectures.
- Experience with microservices, containerized environments including Podman, Docker, and Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Understanding of HIPAA, data protection, and secure software development practices.
- Exceptional communication and technical leadership skills, including the ability to articulate complex ideas, influence technical decisions, build consensus across teams, and discuss technical issues in a way that supports positive business outcomes.
- Strong strategic problem-solving skills with the ability to balance technical depth with business priorities, exercise significant independent judgment, and develop pragmatic architectural recommendations for company leadership.
Preferred:- Master9s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Healthcare technology experience, including exposure to EMR/EHR systems, HL7/FHIR standards, or healthcare data workflows.
