Summary
The SMT Test Equipment Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, calibrating, and troubleshooting electronic test equipment used in surface-mount technology (SMT) manufacturing. This role ensures test systems operate reliably to support production quality, throughput, and yield. The technician works closely with Test Engineers, Manufacturing Engineers, and Production teams to minimize downtime and support continuous improvement.

Hours: 0800a-0430p M-F
Responsibilities
- Set up, configure, and maintain SMT test systems including ICT, functional test, AOI, and AXI equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance (PM) and corrective maintenance on test stations and fixtures.
- Diagnose and resolve test equipment hardware, software, and connectivity issues.
- Support production during equipment failures to minimize line downtime.
- Perform routine calibration and verification of test instruments.
- Maintain calibration records in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure all test equipment meets ESD, safety, and quality standards.
- Support test fixture installation, repair, and modification.
- Assist with debug of fixture wiring, probes, pins, and interfaces.
- Verify mechanical and electrical integrity of test fixtures and stations.
- Document equipment issues, repairs, PM activities, and corrective actions.
- Track equipment performance, downtime, and recurring issues.
- Provide feedback and data to Test Engineering for equipment and process improvement.
- Assist with installation and validation of new test equipment for NPI builds.
- Support test station bring-up and initial production ramp.
- Participate in test equipment qualification and acceptance testing.
- Work closely with Test Engineers, Manufacturing Engineers, Quality, and Production teams.
- Support process improvement initiatives to increase uptime, yield, and efficiency.
- Provide training and guidance to production personnel on proper equipment handling
Qualifications
- Associate degree in Electronics, Robotics, Industrial Technology, or equivalent experience.
- 2–5 years of experience supporting electronic test equipment in an SMT environment.
- Strong understanding of electronic test systems and instrumentation.
- Experience with calibration and preventive maintenance programs.
- Ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Familiarity with ESD control procedures
- Experience with ICT, functional test, AOI, or AXI platforms.
- IPC certification or equivalent electronics training.
- Experience supporting ISO, automotive, medical, or regulated manufacturing environments.
