Ameresco has an immediate opening for an experienced
Site Safety Manager based in
Chicago, Illinois. This position will be responsible for providing an onsite safety presence to establish, implement, and maintain a proactive safety culture.
Responsibilities:- Conduct daily inspections of personnel, equipment, tools, and work areas.
- Perform new worker safety orientations and ongoing safety meetings.
- Lead and document incident, mishap, and near-miss investigations.
- Maintain required safety documentation and reference materials onsite.
- Attend and participate in pre-construction conferences, preparatory meetings, initial inspections, follow-up inspections, and Three-Phase Quality Control meetings.
- Implement, monitor, and enforce the Accident Prevention Plan (APP), Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), and EM 385-1-1 requirements.
- Verify compliance with safety requirements by employees, subcontractors, and visitors.
- Stop work and initiate corrective actions when unsafe conditions or behaviors are identified.
- Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Maintain daily safety records, inspection reports, and regulatory documentation.
- Coordinate with project management, quality control personnel, subcontractors, and government representatives regarding safety-related matters.
- Promote a positive safety culture through visible onsite leadership and employee engagement.
Minimum Qualifications:- Minimum of ten (10) years of documented construction safety experience on commercial, industrial, federal, or heavy construction projects with at least five (5) years of experience serving as a Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) on U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) or other federal construction projects.
Additional Qualifications:- Successful completion of the OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Course.
- Completion of an additional 40 hours of documented construction safety training beyond the OSHA 30-Hour course.
- Documented completion of 8 hours of formal safety-related continuing education annually for the previous five years.
- Experience developing, implementing, and managing Accident Prevention Plans (APPs) and Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs).
- Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
- Strong written, verbal, organizational, and leadership skills.
- Ability to conduct inspections, investigations, and safety training while maintaining detailed records and documentation.
- Thorough knowledge of current EM 385-1-1, OSHA 29 CFR 1926, and applicable construction safety regulations.
- Current CHST, CSP, ASP, CSHO, or equivalent professional safety certification.
- Experience working under USACE, NAVFAC, AFCEC, or other Department of Defense construction contracts.
- Experience with electronic safety management systems and digital reporting platforms.
- Ability to review confidential US security information is required.
- Valid driver's license in good standing is required.
The anticipated base salary range for this role is $92,000 - $134,000 (presented in good faith). In addition to base pay, employees receive a comprehensive benefits package, such as health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off, and may be eligible for performance incentives, bonuses, commissions, or equity, depending on the role.
