Job OverviewAPTIM is seeking a site Construction Manager to support design-build construction projects at the Alabama Port Authority in Mobile, Alabama. This is a field position to provide construction oversight for medium- to large-scale maintenance activities and capital projects in support of terminal operations at the port. The primary terminal is McDuffie Coal Terminal. Preferred experience should include railcar and barge unloading, large volume material handling (conveyor belts, stacker/reclaimer, and ship loading), and all other tasks associated with coal terminal operations. Strong interpersonal skills are required, including the ability to communicate clearly and confidently, both written and verbally, to all project team members including client representatives and APTIM colleagues alike.
Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:- Possess the experience and knowledge to support scope of work development, schedules, and budgetary cost estimating. Provide level of effort estimates for schedule and cost of construction activities and construction oversight.
- Provide support for development of project execution plans, risk and contingency assessment, and preliminary planning for field activities.
- Complete Daily Production Reports documenting ongoing inspection activities.
- Maintain frequent and consistent verbal and written communication with Maintenance, Operations, contractors, suppliers, vendors, project engineers, and project management on the status of the project.
- Responsible for overall project workmanship and goal attainment. Inspects field work to evaluate construction progress, efficiency of operation, cost control, and quality of work.
- Help monitor contractor's project safety programs.
- Recommend solutions to construction requests, conflicts, and non-conformances.
- Plan, organize, coordinate, and control field activities in accordance with established policies, procedures, systems, and requirements.
- Facilitate the efficient use of contractors, personnel, and equipment in their area.
- Oversee commissioning, conduct final inspection, and resolve punch list items to support Return to Operations.
Basic Qualifications:- Job applicants should have direct on-site construction experience in large volume material handling and port/terminal operations and maintenance.
- Bachelor's degree in construction-related field (or equivalent construction-related work experience).
- 10 years' minimum experience in field construction
- Comprehensive knowledge of construction-related processes, as well as a thorough knowledge of industry practices.
- Proven leadership and management capability.
- Good written and oral communications skills.
- Can identify and report to Project Engineer and/or Project Manager out of scope services, change of field conditions, or other issues that may result in negative impacts.
- Ability to acquire Transportation Worker Identification Credentials (TWIC) and Alabama Port Authority access badge
