This role is for Go Expansion Program and associated with the Delivery Partners for Metrolinx.
Missions/Main DutiesProvide strategic engineering leadership, technical governance and specialist oversight for railway signalling, conventional train control, European Train Control System (ETCS), Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) and wayside systems across the Metrolinx capital program expansion portfolio.
Act as the senior technical authority for signalling and train control design integrity, translating network and fleet operational requirements from Systems Engineering into actionable project delivery requirements. Provide technical leadership for the strategic rollout and migration of ETCS across the GO network while ensuring effective integration with legacy signalling systems and dual-equipped fleets.
Lead the review and validation of safety-critical signalling circuits, logic architectures, wayside configurations and vehicle-onboard interfaces. Provide technical oversight throughout design, installation, testing and system acceptance, including resolution of complex interfaces between signalling, track, traction power/OCS, civil infrastructure, rolling stock, maintenance facilities and external railway operators.
Maintain technical compliance frameworks and ensure adherence to Metrolinx standards, AREMA, CROR, CENELEC requirements and Transport Canada regulations. Lead the management of signalling-related engineering hazards, interface risks, technical variances and regulatory clearances, and provide senior oversight of engineering consultants, delivery partners and specialist signalling suppliers. Lead, resource and mentor the Signalling and Train Control engineering team.
This role is required to provide centralized technical leadership, engineering governance and safety oversight for signalling and train control systems across Metrolinx's capital program expansion portfolio. The position is particularly important to supporting the modernization and strategic rollout of ETCS across the GO network while maintaining safe and effective interoperability with existing legacy signalling infrastructure and mixed-traffic operations.
Signalling and train control are safety-critical railway systems with complex interfaces across track, rolling stock, traction power, maintenance facilities and other infrastructure. The role will provide senior technical authority to ensure these interfaces are appropriately managed, designs and system modifications meet required engineering and regulatory standards, and technical risks are identified and mitigated ahead of testing, commissioning and operational implementation.
This leadership capability is critical to safeguarding public safety, achieving regulatory and technical compliance, managing migration between legacy and modernized train control systems and ensuring that new and modified infrastructure is technically ready for safe operational acceptance.
Our team will look into this right away.
