Full Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-orientedSheet Metal Foreperson (Design Development)to join our Commercial Construction division, based inthe Greater Toronto Area on site.

TheSheet Metal Foreperson (Design Development)will be responsible for supporting theDesign Management Teamin developing a functional, compliant, and cost-effective design within project timelines. This role will work closely with project managers, engineers, VDC teams, and site teams to ensure constructability, efficiency, and compliance with design requirements, while maximizing installation efficiencies and minimizing costs

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provideleadership in sheet metal design and construction, ensuring alignment with project goals and constructability best practices.
  • Participate in estimating turnover and pre-construction meetings, ensuring early trade engagement in design development.
  • Review and provide feedback ondesign drawings, specifications, and consultant submissionsfor accuracy, completeness, and efficiency.
  • Collaborate withproject management and engineering teamsto assess alternative design approaches and propose value-engineered solutions.
  • Lead and participate in design development meetings, supporting coordination between field execution teams and consultants.
  • Interface withVirtual Design and Construction (VDC) teamsto ensure 3D models and shop drawings reflect design intent and are compliant with project agreements.
  • Identifyclash detection and constructability challengesearly in the design process and work with project teams to resolve issues.
  • Support scope development and pricing for Design Revision Requests (DRRs), assisting in cost control and change management processes.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevantbuilding codes, safety regulations, and project specifications.
  • Conductpage-turn reviews of design documentswith project execution teams to ensure alignment with field requirements.
  • Assist in developing accuratematerial take-offs and procurement schedulesto support project timelines.
  • Monitor design progressionagainst the construction schedule, ensuring all required information is delivered on time.
  • Participate inclient and construction meetings, contributing expertise to design-related discussions.
  • Maintain strong relationships withsubcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams, leveraging partnerships to support project objectives.
  • Work closely withpiping,electrical, architectural, and structural teamsto ensure coordination of sheet metal design elements.
  • Review and coordinateaccess door requirements, firestop & smokestop considerations, and duct cleaning specifications.


Qualifications:

  • Certified Journeyperson in Sheet Metal Workor equivalent experience.
  • 5+ yearsof experience in sheet metal construction, with a focus ondesign coordination and pre-construction involvement.
  • Strong knowledge ofHVAC systems, ductwork fabrication, installation best practices, and fire-rated assemblies.
  • Experience indesign-assist or design-buildprojects is an asset.
  • Working knowledge ofmechanical, architectural, and structural drawings, including the ability tointerpret and review consultant designs.
  • Proficiency inBluebeam,Navis Works,Microsoft Office,Excel
  • Strong understanding ofbuilding codes, safety regulations, and risk management principles.
  • Excellentproblem-solving skills and ability to assess constructability challengesearly in the design process.
  • Ability to work autonomously while managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Effective communicator and team player, able to work with engineers, project managers, and site teams.


This is a New position.

Compensation/Base Rate: $56.80 (as per Local 30 collective agreement)
