Job Description

At Louis Dreyfus Company, safety is more than a priority, it is a core value. We're looking for an experienced Safety, Health & Environmental (SHE) Manager to lead and strengthen our SHE programs at our soybean processing and biodiesel facility in Claypool, Indiana.

In this highly visible leadership role, you'll have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on our people, operations, and community by fostering a strong safety culture, driving environmental stewardship, and ensuring regulatory compliance across the site. You'll partner closely with plant leadership and employees to create a safe, healthy, and sustainable work environment while supporting the continued growth and success of the facility.

Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
  • Develop, implement and maintain written safety, health & environmental programs.
  • Develop and provide training to plant employees on safety, health & environmental procedures.
  • Investigate safety, health, and environmental incidents.
  • Conduct audits of the facility to ensure operations meet safety, health & environmental requirements.
  • Ensure that site environmental permits are current and accurate.
  • Prepare and submit safety and environmental regulatory reports as required.


Additional Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement a Process Safety Management program.
  • Monitor safety, health & environmental performance. Develop and implement strategies for improvement.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of site security and DOT requirements.
  • Assist with the implementation of company drug/alcohol and pre-employment medical examination policies.

Qualifications

Education/Professional Certifications/Licenses

The following are the basic qualifications: BS degree or equivalent work experience.

The following is the preferred qualification: BS in a technical field or professional certification.

Experience

The following are the preferred qualifications:
  • Experience working in the soybean processing industry.
  • 5-10 years progressive experience in SHE.


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (including any physical demands)

The following are the basic qualifications:
  • Knowledge of Process Safety Management.
  • Strong knowledge of the regulatory requirements applicable to the facility operates (e.g., OSHA, EPA, USDA, DOT).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with spreadsheet and word processing software (e.g., Excel and MS Word).
  • Ability to work in an environment that may contain grain dust or flammable liquids.
  • Ability to climb stairs, use ladders, work at heights, enter confined spaces, withstand extended periods of walking and standing, crawling, and bending. Ability to lift 50 pounds.

Equipment Used
  • Typical office equipment: PC, telephone, fax machine, copy machine.
  • Safety and environmental testing equipment.


Working Conditions
  • Climate-controlled office environment, plant environment, outside in all climate conditions.
  • The extension of regular working hours is occasionally necessary to complete time-sensitive projects, attend training or respond to emergencies.
  • Some travel required for seminars, to meet with regulatory officials, and to visit other plant locations.
  • Work in an environment where gases, vapors, dust, noise and odors are present
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) shall be worn as required


Employee Supervision

No direct supervisory responsibility, but will have indirect supervisory role as member of the management team.

Decision Making/Accountability

Is accountable for the development and implementation of programs that meet safety, health & environmental strategies. Utilizes a broad understanding of federal and state government regulations relating to plant operations. Provides support to the plant manager for compliance with Company standards and regulatory safety, health & environmental regulations.
