Full Job Description
SMS is looking for a Service Supervisor to lead the safe, efficient, and economical delivery of shop and field service operations at our Tumbler Ridge branch. Reporting to the Service Manager, this role provides frontline leadership to a team of tradespeople supporting heavy equipment maintenance, repair, and rebuild activities, with a strong focus on safety, quality, and customer service.

Work Location: Tumbler Ridge, BC
Salary: $110,000 to $120,000 per annum plus eligibility for overtime.
Work Arrangement: Fixed on site - working from the branch or customer site each day.
Schedule: 14x14 rotation, accommodation available.

What You'll Do:

  • Supervise and coordinate shop and field service operations to ensure operational, safety, and quality requirements are met.
  • Lead, schedule, and allocate work for tradespeople to optimize workforce utilization and service delivery.
  • Oversee maintenance, repair, and rebuild activities for heavy equipment supporting mining operations.
  • Conduct in-process inspections and evaluate completed work to ensure a high-quality finished product.
  • Provide coaching and technical guidance to employees when repair challenges are encountered.
  • Take corrective action when work standards or performance expectations are not met, including performance management and discipline as required.
  • Ensure all work is performed in compliance with company policies, OH&S legislation, and safe work procedures.
  • Lead toolbox talks and participate in safety meetings to promote a strong safety culture.
  • Coordinate work with parts and warranty teams, including preparation of warranty repair orders.
  • Maintain accurate service work orders and ensure timely completion and close-out.
  • Deliver excellent customer service by resolving service issues and supporting customer relationships.
  • Act as a back-up to the Service Manager as required and contribute to overall branch operations.


What You Bring:
The successful candidate brings journey-level trade certification with demonstrated leadership experience in an industrial or mining environment, along with a strong technical background in heavy equipment maintenance and repair.
Other requirements include:

  • Supervisory experience leading teams of tradespeople.
  • Strong working knowledge of OH&S legislation and safe work practices.
  • Experience coordinating shop and field service operations, schedules, and resources.
  • Komatsu equipment experience is preferred; comparable OEM experience will be considered.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
