Full Job Description
ABOUT THIS ROLE
As a Senior Visual Designer on Audible's Experience Design team, you will be the creative force behind how Audible looks and feels - defining and evolving a visual language that elevates the storytelling experience across iOS, Android and web. This is not a design systems maintenance role. This is a visual craft leadership role for someone with exceptional aesthetic sensibility, creative ambition, and the ability to push boundaries.
You will bring deep expertise in typography, color, composition, and motion to continuously raise the bar on Audible's visual experience. You'll establish visual directions where no precedent exists - from refining the craft of today's product to defining what Audible's visual identity looks like in an AI-enabled future. Your work will influence not only individual features, but how millions of customers experience the Audible brand through our products. Every design decision you make will be grounded in a deep understanding of visual communication principles - turning rich customer insights into visually stunning experiences that bring our brand to life across every product touchpoint.
ABOUT YOU
Your primary mission is to elevate the visual language of the product experience. You set the creative bar - establishing cohesive, premium visual directions when no playbook exists, taking creative risks, and articulating why a visual choice makes an experience better. You don't simply apply design systems - you create the visual ideas that make systems worth scaling. You thrive in ambiguity, moving with conviction in undefined spaces, forging creative direction from complexity and constraint.
You bring an extraordinary eye and exceptional taste to this work. You notice the rhythm across a screen, feel the emotional impact of imagery, and understand the difference a subtle detail can make. You think in mood boards, type studies, and color palettes - and you know how to translate those big creative ideas into any moment of the product experience, from a hero surface to the smallest interaction, to make it feel more intentional, polished, and elevated.
As a collaborator and mentor, you know that constructive feedback and a growth mindset create an environment where everyone thrives. You're ready to push your craft further, but the journey with your team is what drives you.
As a Senior VX Designer, you will....
- Master the fundamentals: Apply deep mastery of visual design fundamentals - typography, composition, spatial hierarchy, color theory, and scale - to create cohesive, innovative visual experiences that influence long-term organizational strategy
- Define and evolve our visual language : Push creative boundaries beyond established patterns to deliver a premium, emotionally resonant aesthetic for Audible's product across all platforms
- Champion visual design excellence: Relentlessly raise the bar through bold creative exploration, emerging design trends, and strategic thinking - setting the standard for craft quality across the team
- Develop visual concepts and creative directions: Produce mood boards, type explorations, color studies, and high-fidelity visual explorations that articulate a clear, compelling visual point of view
- Bring visual storytelling into the product: Demonstrate subject matter expertise across visual design domains including graphic design, art direction, illustration, and visual storytelling - connecting Audible's emotional brand to every screen
- Use motion with purpose: Create high-fidelity visual designs and interactive prototypes that demonstrate motion principles and micro-interactions, exploring new visual directions and validating design intent through stakeholder collaboration and user testing
- Shape our design system through craft: Contribute to the design system by translating visual principles into design tokens, reusable components, and patterns - ensuring consistency and quality across platforms while preserving creative intent
- Bring a forward-looking perspective: Shape the visual language for emerging experiences by developing a point of view on how visual design evolves in an AI-enabled product landscape
- Lead and mentor: Build relationships which provide leadership, direction, and mentorship for a team of UX Designers
- Collaborate cross-functionally: Actively communicate with cross-functional teams, management, and research on complex user flows and commerce-driven projects
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Have an online portfolio or samples of work on resume, demonstrating experience creating great end-to-end, user-centered design solutions and patterns, across desktop and mobile devices
- 7+ years of industry experience as a visual designer, product designer or similar role
- Experience designing and delivering digital products that align customer needs and business goals; illustrated with a portfolio
- Experience taking design problems and working with stakeholders and user research insights to craft design solutions grounded in customer needs and business goals
- Experience communicating clearly and concisely with leadership, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams
- Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining high-quality output in all deliverables
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working across functional teams and senior stakeholders
- Experience in a range of design approaches, methods, and tools that you use to plan, concept, and prototype complex projects
