Job DescriptionTransportation Practice What We're Looking For: Michael Baker International is seeking a Senior Transportation Project Manager to join our growing teams in Madison and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This leadership role combines project management, technical expertise, client relationship management, and business development. The successful candidate will have experience delivering transportation and roadway projects for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT), counties, municipalities, and Design-Build clients while leading multidisciplinary teams and mentoring engineering staff.
What You'll Do:- Manage transportation and roadway projects from proposal development through final delivery.
- Lead project teams in roadway design, plan production, QA/QC reviews, and technical analyses.
- Develop project scopes, schedules, budgets, staffing plans, and fee proposals.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships while supporting strategic business development initiatives throughout Wisconsin.
- Coordinate engineers, technicians, and subconsultants to successfully deliver projects on schedule and within budget.
- Monitor project performance, financials, staffing utilization, and project risks.
- Provide technical direction, leadership, and mentorship to engineering staff.
- Support transportation design efforts utilizing OpenRoads Designer and other digital delivery tools.
- Collaborate with regional leadership to expand Michael Baker's transportation practice across Wisconsin.
What You Need to Succeed:- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required; Wisconsin PE preferred or ability to obtain reciprocity.
- 15+ years of transportation engineering and project management experience.
- Proven experience delivering highway and roadway projects for WisDOT, counties, municipalities, Design-Build, and other public-sector clients.
- Strong leadership, client relationship management, business development, and communication skills.
- Experience managing project scopes, budgets, schedules, quality, and multidisciplinary project teams.
- Proficiency with OpenRoads Designer, MicroStation, ProjectWise, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office.
- Experience with roadway design, corridor modeling, plan production, and digital project delivery.
- Experience mentoring and developing engineering staff.
- Established relationships with WisDOT and local agency stakeholders throughout Wisconsin.
- Experience leading pursuits, proposal development, and transportation practice growth initiatives.
- PMP certification and multi-state PE licensure are a plus.
CompensationThe approximate compensation range for this position is $140,000 to $200,000. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
