Full Job Description
Senior Technology & Model Risk Manager in Raleigh, NC to join us in fulfilling our mission, while utilizing our values of excellence, improvement, and connection. Reporting to the Director of Operational Risk Management, this strategic role operates at the intersection of model risk, artificial intelligence, technology, data, and governance. You will partner with business and technology leaders across the organization to provide independent challenge, identify emerging risks, and deliver risk-informed insights that strengthen governance and support business decision-making. A significant focus of this role includes Model Risk Management and AI Governance, with opportunities to expand the Risk Team's oversight and advisory capabilities across related areas such as data governance, enterprise change, and technology-enabled initiatives, helping strengthen enterprise risk insights and support informed decision-making.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead Model Risk and AI Governance Oversight
  • Lead the organization's Model Governance Program through ownership of the Model Risk Management (MRM) Framework, model inventory, governance processes, and the Model Governance Committee. Perform, coordinate, or oversee independent model validation activities as appropriate, applying quantitative, statistical, and analytical techniques to evaluate model design, assumptions, limitations, performance monitoring, conceptual soundness, and outcomes. Provide independent risk oversight and effective challenge throughout the model lifecycle and drive ongoing enhancement of model governance practices and program maturity.
  • Partner with stakeholders across the enterprise to support the ongoing evolution of the organization's AI Governance Framework, providing risk advisory support and effective challenge related to AI use cases, governance processes, risk assessments, monitoring activities, and emerging regulatory expectations. Assess and monitor AI-related risks and help promote the responsible adoption and use of artificial intelligence technologies.
  • Develop meaningful reporting, metrics, and risk insights that enable management and governance committees to effectively oversee model and AI-related risks across the enterprise.
  • Monitor emerging model, AI, and technology-related risks, evolving industry practices, and regulatory expectations to ensure governance frameworks remain effective, scalable, and fit for purpose.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to stakeholders by providing guidance and education on model, AI, and technology-related risks, governance expectations, and emerging industry practices, while helping teams understand risks, evaluate alternatives, and implement practical solutions.


Provide Risk Oversight and Advisory Support Across Enterprise Initiatives
  • Partner with business, technology, product, and project leaders to provide risk oversight, advisory support, and effective challenge for significant strategic, technology, operational, and transformation initiatives. Analyze risks, control effectiveness, and implementation approaches; help stakeholders understand relevant risks, evaluate alternatives, and develop pragmatic solutions that support business objectives while maintaining appropriate governance and risk management.
  • Evaluate governance effectiveness, implementation readiness, decision-making processes, cross-functional dependencies, and emerging risks to help ensure material risks are appropriately identified, understood, and managed throughout the initiative lifecycle.


Deliver Integrated Risk Insights and Executive Reporting
  • Synthesize information across model risk, AI, technology, operational resilience, third-party risk, data governance, and enterprise initiatives to identify emerging risks, interdependencies, and systemic themes that may not be apparent when viewed independently.
  • Develop meaningful risk insights, recommendations, and governance perspectives that support proactive risk management, informed decision-making, and effective oversight across the enterprise.
  • Translate complex technical and risk-related concepts into clear, actionable insights through executive reporting, dashboards, governance materials, and presentations tailored to diverse audiences.


YOUR QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in business, technology, or a related field with coursework or experience in analytics, data science, quantitative methods.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in one or more of the following: model risk management, model validation, quantitative analytics, data science, AI/ML, or other technology or risk related disciplines.
  • Strong business acumen, analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to identify emerging risks, develop meaningful insights, influence decision-making, and communicate effectively with executive audiences.
  • Strong risk, governance, and control mindset with demonstrated ability to apply these principles to complex business, technology, data, or operational activities, balancing effective oversight with practical business outcomes.
  • Experience operating independently in evolving environments, navigating ambiguity, and applying sound judgment to emerging risks and complex business challenges.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to influence and collaborate effectively with stakeholders, and translate complex concepts into clear, actionable insights for diverse audiences, including senior leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide credible independent challenge, assess complex risks, and influence risk-informed decision-making across business and technology functions.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Oversight of AI, ML, and advanced analytics - Experience supporting governance, risk management, or oversight of AI, machine learning, advanced analytics, or other technology-enabled business capabilities.
  • Building and maturing governance programs - Experience building, implementing, or maturing governance programs, frameworks, or enterprise oversight practices.
  • Advanced credentials or continuous learning - Professional certifications relevant to model, technology, or data risk (e.g., FRM, PRM, CFA, CISA, CRISC), an advanced degree, or ongoing specialized training in AI and emerging technologies.
