About the Role
This position is for a Senior Technical Writer in a highly technical role. You'll write and deliver documentation for docs.solace.com that's closely aligned with developer documentation: APIs, configuration references, and procedures for engineers and developers. You're expected to read code and to use AI-assisted coding or automation in your work. You'll represent customers in conversations with engineering and help define how we write content for AI agents while keeping it clear for human readers.
We're looking for a systems thinker with opinionated product taste and real command of the technical writing craft: someone who blends traditional writing with AI-native techniques and solves documentation problems at scale, not one page at a time.
What You'll Do
Content
- Create and modify existing customer-facing documentation for Solace event brokers, Solace Agent Mesh, APIs, and other Solace products.
- Deliver documentation on the release schedule to docs.solace.com in MadCap Flare (XML) and Markdown.
- Ensure content provides a positive experience for both human readers and AI agents.
- Collaborate with content providers and senior members of the writing team to update, revise, reorganize, and restructure existing documentation.
- Improve the style guide with the writing team and enforce it through automated checks and guardrails including contributions to quality metrics.
Product and Engineering Enablement
- Interview PLM/POs, SMEs, and contributors to understand features and fill knowledge gaps, and verify details against the source code.
- Work closely with product management, UX, and architecture teams to ensure information is presented in a clear, user-friendly manner.
- Mentor and train writers and other documentation contributors, including guiding developers on how to structure their documentation for reusability and clarity.
AI and Documentation Systems
- Use AI daily in content development and engineering workflows, including drafting new topics where the content suits it.
- Use AI-assisted coding or automation to build scripts and tools that solve content problems at scale.
- Help shape the structure and navigation of docs.solace.com to align with SEO and AEO best practices.
What You'll Bring to the Role
- 7+ years writing technical documentation for software/cloud products with delivery in an Agile environment.
- Experience defining editorial standards or site structure for a large documentation set.
- Hands-on experience to set up environments and configure features, with working knowledge of IP networking and operating systems, enterprise software (installation, configuration, administration and API) to ensure accurate documentation.
- Strong technical aptitude, with the ability to converse with engineers and sort through complex information. This includes the ability to read and review code.
- A track record of scaling documentation through templates, reuse, contributor guidelines, or automation. Experience writing AI prompts or skills that improve a content workflow.
- Docs-as-code Git, GitHub, pull requests, Jenkins, and GitHub Actions.
