Senior Technical Lead

This is a unique opportunity to lead the design, delivery, stability, and continuous improvement of strategic platforms while working with cutting-edge technologies including Generative AI, OpenSearch, Dynatrace, Oracle/SQL, Mainframe ecosystems, cloud technologies, APIs, and enterprise-scale production environments.

As a technical leader, you'll influence platform strategy, guide engineering teams, solve complex business and technology challenges, and help shape the future of digital banking at one of North America's leading financial institutions.

What You'll Do

As a Senior Technical Lead, you will:
  • Lead the design, development, modernization, and optimization of business-critical platforms and applications.
  • Drive platform stability, scalability, performance, security, and operational excellence across the technology ecosystem.
  • Partner with business stakeholders, product teams, architects, and engineering leaders to define platform strategy, roadmaps, and execution plans.
  • Build and implement innovative solutions leveraging Generative AI capabilities to improve productivity, operational efficiency, monitoring, search, and customer experiences.
  • Utilize Dynatrace and observability best practices to proactively monitor system health, identify issues, improve performance, and enhance reliability.
  • Design and support enterprise search solutions utilizing OpenSearch and related search technologies.
  • Support and optimize applications leveraging Oracle/SQL databases, ensuring performance, integrity, and scalability.
  • Collaborate across modern and legacy technology environments, including Mainframe systems, batch processing frameworks, and distributed applications.
  • Provide leadership and expertise for production support activities, incident management, root-cause analysis, and problem resolution.
  • Drive automation initiatives that improve operational efficiency, platform resilience, and service quality.
  • Lead the implementation and management of APIs and platform integrations while ensuring security, resilience, and scalability.
  • Analyze platform performance, adoption trends, and operational data to identify opportunities for optimization and continuous improvement.
  • Guide development teams through all phases of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Mentor developers and promote engineering excellence, innovation, and continuous learning.


Key Responsibilities
  • Build strong relationships with business and technology stakeholders to understand platform vision and align delivery with strategic objectives.
  • Prioritize, manage, and support a portfolio of customer-facing and internal platform initiatives.
  • Monitor platform health, adoption metrics, service performance, and operational effectiveness.
  • Document business rules, process flows, technical designs, architecture decisions, and functional specifications.
  • Analyze platform data to drive enhancements, performance improvements, and operational efficiencies.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend solutions that strengthen BMO's technology capabilities.
  • Ensure compliance with service level agreements, support standards, security policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage technical requirements including API integrations, platform services, and supporting infrastructure components.
  • Work independently while leading complex initiatives and navigating ambiguity.
  • Provide specialized consulting, technical leadership, analytical expertise, and production support guidance.
  • Apply BMO's Risk Management Framework and ensure all solutions align with security, governance, compliance, and operational standards.


Technical Skills & Experience

Required Skills
  • 5-7+ years of experience in software development, platform engineering, application support, or related technology roles.
  • Strong experience designing, building, and supporting enterprise-scale software solutions.
  • Experience working with Generative AI solutions, including AI-powered automation, developer productivity tools, and emerging AI technologies.
  • Strong understanding of Large Language Models (LLMs), prompt engineering, AI-assisted workflows, and enterprise AI adoption.
  • Experience with Dynatrace or similar observability and application performance monitoring platforms.
  • Experience implementing and supporting OpenSearch/Elasticsearch solutions.
  • Strong expertise in Oracle, SQL, and database design, optimization, and performance tuning.
  • Experience supporting and integrating Mainframe applications and infrastructure.
  • Strong understanding of batch operations, scheduling frameworks, and enterprise processing environments.
  • Proven experience providing production support, incident management, problem management, root-cause analysis, and operational excellence.
  • Experience designing and supporting APIs, microservices, and enterprise integrations.
  • Strong understanding of system architecture, application design, and distributed systems.
  • Experience working within Agile, DevOps, and CI/CD environments.
  • Knowledge of cloud computing platforms and cloud-native architectures.
  • Experience implementing secure software development practices and cybersecurity principles.

Qualifications

  • Experience working within large enterprise or highly regulated environments is considered an asset.
  • Financial services industry experience is preferred.

Work Arrangement

Hybrid Role: 2 days per week in office

Salary:

$75,900.00 - $141,900.00

Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked.
