Full Job Description
Position Summary

Odyssey has an exciting opportunity for a Senior System Safety Engineer supporting the Agile Weapons Division (AFLCMC/EBX) at Eglin AFB, FL.  This division is resposible for acquiring dominant strike weapon capabilities with speed and  agility through transformative digital acquisition and open architecture approaches.

If you’re excited about shaping next‑generation Air Force weapon systems and want to play a critical role in both technical execution and system safety, this position gives you the opportunity to lead essential engineering activities across the entire acquisition lifecycle. You’ll work directly with program managers, engineers, testers, and mission partners to define requirements, guide system design and integration, ensure safety and airworthiness, and help deliver reliable, mission‑ready capability to the warfighter.

This is a role for someone who enjoys solving complex engineering challenges, managing technical and safety artifacts, and bringing structure, clarity, and discipline to high‑visibility programs.

Responsibilities

Duties include, but not limited to:

• Support engineering activities across all acquisition phases; including requirements development, architecture design, implementation, integration, verification/validation (V&V), transition planning, and configuration, interface, and risk management.

• Lead system safety program activities including hazard identification, system safety analyses, design trade‑off evaluations, configuration control for safety‑significant changes, participation in test/flight readiness events, and interpretation of safety standards and requirements.

• Apply deep knowledge of MIL‑STD‑882, MIL‑STD‑1316, DoD munitions safety processes (NNMSB, WSESRB), AFI 63‑104, and safety‑related acquisition documentation (SEPs, SSAs, PESHEs, LCSPs); manage system safety artifacts and ensure disciplined, organized safety program execution.

• Assist with and maintain required engineering documentation; support and execute technical reviews, audits, and interchange meetings (CDR, MRA, TIMs), including development of technical artifacts, entry/exit criteria, and written reporting for systems reviews.

• Review armament program portfolios, assess alternative technical approaches, evaluate designs and test results, manage and sustain technical baselines, and support or perform system‑level testing to ensure subsystem and system performance meets approved specifications.

• Prepare technical reports, presentations, validation criteria, and procedures; analyze engineering results for major weapon systems; and support acquisition, development, integration, sustainment, deployment/fielding, installation, and operational oversight activities.

• Conduct engineering and programmatic trade studies addressing performance, producibility, reliability, maintainability, lifecycle cost, schedule, and risk; support IPTs through technical analyses, documentation, studies, evaluations, and recommendations.

• Support proposal and requirements analyses by reviewing ICDs, CDDs, CPDs, AoAs, MUAs, CONOPS, Technology Development Strategies, and FCAs/PCAs; provide technical assessments of feasibility, compatibility, and cost‑effectiveness.
